How are you doing today, msattler?
I compare the counter of the Phoenix mission with your savings on tobacco packages: every single day at least one package further......You both started your missions at about the same time.
Cheers!

Remember that you will have more healthy days with your kitties and BOINC rig, if you give up smoking! You will also spare LOTS of dollars a year so your BOINC rig will get even more computing power! No cigars => Larger RAC.

PS. I have never ever even tasted a cig.
PPS. I have never drinked alcohol either.
PPPS. Am I too nerdy?

I'm smoking the last of my duty free. I'm getting worried about paying the high street prices now...

I may have to sell one on my PCs :(

or start smoking my socks ;)

No problem in my case.. I guess it must have been a brain damage that made me to
start smoking in the first place.. hehe

Mark, how are you doing? If you make it through the weekend, half of my donation will be in your name. Of course the kitties will have to verify this ;)

Mark I hope you are holding up well and aren't breaking down. I know that this can't be easy for you, although I can't even begin to imagine just how hard it must actually be. I wish you the best of luck.

Don't know if this'll help, but it's kept me from smoking in the first place:

1. My grandfather smoked for 40 years. Ultimately, they found cancer in his right lung. "We'll have to perform surgery and remove half of that lung. No big deal." Once they got in there, they found they had to remove the entire right lung. "No big deal." He never made it out of the recovery room. Died, very unexpectedly, recovering, right there.

2. My father smoked for my entire lifetime. Developed cancer which became "Cancer of the Lymph Nodes." Once it get's into the lymph system, the body cannot defend against it. I got to watch, as a young teen, as my father spent the last 6 months of his life deteriorating from the Radiation and Chemo therapy they used to try to extend his life. This once proud and powerful man died with splints on his feet because he couldn't even hold them up while he was lying in his death bed.

3. A friend of mine that was a smoker of ten+ years took himself to the emergency room because he thought he was having a heart-attack. After multiple tests, incluing X-Rays, the doctors told him it wasn't a heart-attack, but his lungs were so 'f'd up that he really needed to quit smoking. That scared him so bad, he quit Cold-Turkey. And that's something he relates as the most significant choice he's ever made in his life.

It can be done. And I hope, for both of you, that you make it through the tough times.

Keep on Crunchin'!!!

Day 4.....
Thanks again to all for your support.....
When I first get home from work, the urge is as strong as ever, but I have resisted buying any more, so I am OK so far........

The trick for me is going to be maintaining my stubborn attitude about quitting over the next 3 days........I work 4 10's, so I have a 3 day weekend, and you know I am tapping the whiskey bottle as we speak.....ain't gonna give that up...

So far, my mindset is pretty good.....I got a good percentage of 'stubborn German' in me...and right now, I am determined not to let the ciggys win....I get really perturbed when someone or something tries to best me....

If I make it through this weekend, it's a done deal!!!

And my sincere wishes of support to any and all who are or who have considered quitting along with me......

When you make it through the weekend just don't let your will power go down. I've heard that the minute you do you will give in. Good luck this weekend!

Keep up the good resistance.

Day 5 will soon be over, and the week end seems to shoot bye, then it is Monday again.

Week end is clear and behind you, just picture it. You know you can do it!
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I'll join Team Whisky with you for the weekend. You have my full support on that front ;-) I've got a shoulder that you can lean on, cry on, spill on.

For DVD support... pop in a copy of "The Waterboy"... "You can DO it!"

I kinda identify with 'Leaving Las Vegas'.......but regardless of my OCD and Manic Depressive thingys......I would never go there.....the fact that one of my brothers did totally prevents me from going there......I shall be here for whatever duration my God chooses me to be so........

I love "Leaving Las Vegas"... (opening scene... shopping cart in a liquor store... I can relate) actually I like "going to Las Vegas" even more... heading there Tuesday for a long break ;-)

Yup, I explained to a friend about 10 years ago that if he quit smoking (3 packs/day) he could easily afford that new 4x4 truck he wanted just with the fag savings. He quit and bought the truck... somethings become easier when you dangle a carrot.

Been burning the midnight oil... Microsoft VisualStudio 2005 "trial" license expires today (needed for development with Intel compiler). I'll switch to a newer trial(90 days) version when I get back from Las Vegas.

I'll be poking in later tonight to offer up some JD (JackDaniels) induced support.
