Message 764967 - Posted: 8 Jun 2008, 21:04:21 UTC

I just got a new (to me) DP Xeon based MB to replace a PIII 800 DP that went south on me a while ago. It is a Tyan Tiger i7501 (S2723) running 2 2ghz Xeon procs, W2K SP4, and the BOINC client v5.2.1.3. It worked fine with the standard client, but am trying to optimize peformance on all my machines, and use the Oprimized clients.

After the updated client was copied over to the proper directory per the instructions, during the startup messages, one of them reads an error: 6/8/2008 3:51:50 PM|SETI@home|Unparsed line in app_info.xml:

It seems to start up fine, but I haven't seen that message until the new client (2.4V_Windows_x32_SSE2). Any thoughts on why this error is happening are appreciated!

First of all.........If you want to optimize, you should be upgrading to the new AK V8 SSE2 port, not the older 2.4v port....

If I recall correctly, the 'unparsed line' error was due to an extra space or blank line left in some of the app_info files, and is of no consequence...so you can safely ignore it...

But do run cpuz to verify your cpu's capabilities...what you have listed seems to indicate SSE2 is the best it supports, and then get the new app here from the Luntics site.....it will perform MUCH better than the 2.4v app!!

Found some more, it looks like an SERVER, about 5 years old, but can be good cruchers. Certainly more powerfull as a PIII !

I've searched a bit, it has SSE2, NO hyperthreading though. But you can check that out by looking at the taskmanager and should see four threads/cores, under WIN XP, that is.

And about the 'message from BOINC's manager', you can forget about that, it's nothing serious.

And about optimizing, you could use theAK_V8_SSE2 version, witch is supported by by your XEON CPU's .

Hey, guys - shouldn't we be recommending a more up to date Boinc client than the v5.2.1.3, too?

I have only ever seen the "unparsed ..." message from pre-flop counter versions (but that may be coincidence).

Hi there, thanks for the quick replies. Yeah, from what I had read, SSE2 is all it's got. So a PIII 800 was a better setup than this Xeon rig? Also, I clicked on your link to get the updated client, but it only brought up the weather channel website?!? hehe Must have added the wrong link to the client I need. Can you re-post the correct link, I'd like to add it tonite, to get the most out of it that I can. I should have realized that this baord wasn't all that up to date, saw the latest BIOS update was from 2003, but it was only $99 for the board and $130 for the 4 gig of ECC memory, so not too bad, it didn't seem, and it was a dual processor. Well, should be good enuf for this box, is mostly just storage for me. :)

Thanks again!

LOL...silly me....here is the correct Lunatics opti app download page.....sheesh, I am usually more careful to check my links after posting...sorry.

EDIT....Yes, I did check the link this time.....LOL.

Hi again, having a small problem, have had it all day. I clicked on your link, to bring up the Lunatics site, but cannot get to the site. Times out, and won't load. Does it work for you right now? If so, any thoughts as to why I might not be able to get to it, and if it's down, is there a link to a mirror site to get the software from? Thanks!

Well, should be good enuf for this box, is mostly just storage for me. :)

Thanks again!

Go to the 'New Optimized Apps' sticky towards the top of this forum....you will find a recent post there that has some mirror links in it...
You are not the only one having some trouble reaching the Lunatics site lately...there is a 'Lunatics Outage' thread about it.....

I found a pretty recent link from a post by Gecko_R7, main links to Lunatics site (still down for me) and the other was to a site in Russia... That site check out ok, anyone know? Or any other options. It was Windows 32 bit AK v8.0 SSE2 (AMD/INTEL) client I am looking for, correct?

Yes, the Russia link you refer to is good... If you still have problems, post again and I'll forward you a direct link via PM from my DL server.

Good luck,

Well, got it and installed it, was a little interesting as I don't read russian, but it was similiar enough to other DL sites that I muddled thru. I installed it and restarted BOINC, didn't see that error, appears to be working correctly. Any way I can tell how much better the new enhanced client is working compared to the standard client?

Thanks again!

Just check the crunch times reported for the next few WUs your rig completes........from your account page, click on 'computers on this account', and then click on 'tasks' for that computer...page through the list until you see the most recent WUs reported and compare the times with units of similar point value from what you reported in the last few days....you should see them drop by a substantial amount.....

Glad you got it sorted...good luck and good crunching...

Looks like the Kitties had not copied anything since yesterday afternoon when they posted the link for the animated weather map.
