wuid=273489815 Stock client overflows with 31 pulse count. Credit .06 AK V8 runs to completion with 1 pulse count. Credit 75.60 As of yet, the possible deciding wingman hasn't been assigned. Will this WU be a total waste of my time with legitimate science and credit lost by being assigned to someone whom also overflows results? Yes... this situation is not uncommon overall and sometimes a penalty is assessed for not even commiting a foul... sometimes the "call" just isn't fair and sometimes it is :) Hopeful, JDWhale |

My guess, by looking at the other units done by your first wingman, is that you will be safe. Your wingman has two other results that have not reached consensus and have been issued to a third computer. So out of 9 units completed by that host, 1 is computer error, 3 are issued to third host, 1 got credit and 4 he is first to report, so result unknown at present. |

wuid=273489815 The odds are that the next host getting this WU is running the stock client and will overflow. So, the BOINC rule is "throw out the top and bottom and grant the middle" which means something like 0.06. The alternative would be to take the average of the requests. If I took the science application and changed the scaling factor so my machine requested 100 times too much credit, and the requests were averaged, why, I'd have the biggest RAC in town (until someone claimed a million times, of course). |

wuid=273489815 I think you will find this is a common fault with Vista and has had a thread of its own in the past Vista overflow -9. Unless your wing person is once again Vista OS they usually go to 75.60 in your case. I beleive Joe was having some sucess with MB 6.0 over on Beta. Michael. |

wuid=273489815 Yes, the next host will most likely be running stock, but even if it is running Windows Vista the probability it will overflow is small. In addition, if it does overflow the probability that the false signals it finds will match those found by the earlier overflow is also small. Overall, the scenario is possible but highly unlikely. My most pessimistic estimate is that there might be one chance in a thousand that the final outcome will be wrong. Joe |

wuid=273489815 I like your "most pessimistic" optimism Joe...Thanks for your assessment. New wingman is an AMD Sempron running WinXP Pro and "stock" client... should find out in 3-4 days... |
