Message 774806 - Posted: 28 Jun 2008, 16:24:07 UTC - in response to Message 774527.

The latest news update on the Fond Du Lac kitty crisis prompts me to write another kitty poem........

From WBAY news......

"The number of cats found earlier this week in a Fond du Lac home is up to 210. That's about 40 more than first counted.

The cats were removed Tuesday from a home on Follett Street. Police say two brothers lived there. What they are trying to figure out now is how it happened.

"Right now it's kitten season so every single shelter is filled to the brim with cats," says Lucy Mathers, manager of the Fond du Lac Humane Society.

With 130 cats already at the Fond du Lac Humane Society, another 210 was a daunting revelation. So much that the Humane Society has to use a building next door to house all the cats.

"They all have fleas, they all have ear mites, so it's just try to set up an assembly line and get it taken care of," says Mathers.

So far, five cats were euthanized, but it's predicted 90 percent will be adoptable. Still, it raises the question, how could two brothers live in this house with 210 cats?

"I asked them and said how did this happen, because I was looking for some explanation too, he says well people would give us these cats thinking we would find homes for them and then we couldn't find homes and then it just blossomed," says Mathers.

The house where the two brothers lived is now condemned. We talked with one of them today and he said quote "we're not a couple of freaks who hid from the world.'" He went on to say they're glad the cats have a safe place to live.

Now, as some cats are brought to other shelters and continue being checked in here, it will be several weeks before they find a home. Fond du Lac police tell us the two brothers could face several charges."

And I say to the kitties..........to those 210 souls that so trusted us.....

A tale of too many kitties.......

By Mark S. Sattler.......

It's sad and it's true, but alas I must read
about hundreds of kitties who again are in need
of the help of the hands that we all need to lend
to those small folk that we know and the hopes that they send.

They seem like such a small trouble, and a trifle to some.
But these little lost kittens are now quite a large sum.
They came one by one, but went out by the dozens.
And now those caring at the shelter are overwhelmed by their numbers.

The toll on my heart is quite heavy right now,
for I can't take them all in, though I'd wish it somehow.
To have their cute faces looking at me in the morning
would make me quite happy.
If I only but could make the story read my way.

I have four grand kitties, and my girlfriend has three.
And they all have been rescued from a life of misree...
But seven is just not enough to be sure
that all kittens are saved from the life they endure.

A life not their choosing, but what they were born into..
A life you or I would not ever choose to live through...

Some will be saved, and some will be lost,
but what is the real true thing that we've lost?
Some trusting lil' kitties, through no fault of their own
Who we've brought into this world and then they were disowned.

My kitties, my friends, how can I ever say sorry
for the actions of others that I can't control?
For to save all your suff'ring I might well sell my soul.

The kitties have saved me from much toil and torment,
that I could not say where I'd be but for the kitties involvement.

I wish I had millions for to save the 210......
My soul would be happy, I could rest very well then....

But until ev'ry kitty has a true loving home,
my soul will be sad, and I'll make that fact known.

If you can help even one.....
your soul will be blessed.
I don't know how I'll ever get help for the rest.
They are there in your town
on your doorstep and streets.
An until we all wake up to their needs it repeats.

A bump I must give, for to arise you awareness.......
The kitties wish to have your dear shareness......

You can't have knieveness and pretned it's not true...
There are ktties just waiting to be living with you..................

Uli,

What did I miss, did a pet die?

Not one of mine, but my neighbors dog got out and hit by a car. She was family too.
Thanks for caring Chris

There are those who all wander in all walks of life,
who don't care 'bout kitties and their status or strife.
But ponder a moment if you could take but a minute
to think about kitties and their life's purpose in it.

They ask little from you, and yet their contribution is grand,
So much love you can get from them there in your hand.

I have tried to express my true faith here and there
for you all to take up my kitties' welfare.
For there is nobody left but just you and just I
to take care of the kitties that would otherwise die.

Some think I'm silly or a little bit daft,
but these feelings of love for the kitties don't pass.
They are where I am at, and I always shall be.
The kitties are waiting for you and for me.

I shall pass some day and I hope that the kitties
are cared for by someone who loves them like I do.
Someone who knows their little souls need care like the rest do.
Someone who will give them a kiss and a petting
and be there for them without ever forgetting.

As the cats go shall we, friends.
Do not ever forget it....
Their care is our task,
do not ever regret it.

If God trusted us here to take care of the kittens,
he will give us his thanks and his blessings in kitty remittance.......

A kiss and a kibble......that's all that they need.
So much to ask for?
I think it's not greed
To ask for a little love in return for it all.
Please take up the task and return their soft call.

The Kittyman asks you to help out if you can.....
And help a lost kitty if however you can.
They haven't the power to do it all on their own.
But if you lend a hand, their strength may be shown....

The kitties have spoken, will you answer their call?
And save even one soul from the pain of it all?
They will ask very little of your trouble and strife
And would add so very much to your meaning of life.

I add these few words to those of many others
and hope they touch one soul who feels as I do.
If my little words can help even one little kitty
Then I have made my soul happy, and my life so more happy.

Thanks for the poem Mark. My neighbor got right in the saddle again and adopted a stray dog. Working on the kitty part.

I'm very happy to hear that.......while a new pet can never quite replace one who we've lost, they can surely help ease the pain.
