My first, and last, time I will ever write a poem....

This Is dedicated to Cleo, my first ever cat, who passed away, nearly 6 years ago....
Even writing this saddens me deeply...

(The trick to this one is you've gotta read it slowly :)
"To Cleo"

I once knew a kitty,
Cleo was her name,

She lived life full,
all a happy game.

Loyal as could be,
a great kitty friend,

Play with me,
she often said.

In the dawn, she waked,
in the dusk, she slept,

Year by year,
all was accept'.

A lifetime it seemed,
always by my side,

Never to leave me,
alone, denied.

In good times, and bad,
in times of despair,

I would retreat to my bed,
with Cleo, just sitting there.

But then, one morning,
after much time had been,

She just lay there,
still and serene.

For weeks I cried,
'coz of her death,

Then I realized,
out of breath.,

Cleo will live on,
as part of me, spirit, and eternity.

R.I.P Cleo - my dearly missed cat.

--------------------

"To Cleo" - Luke, 7 June 2008

Best Regards to all,
Luke.

That was very nice Luke.........thank you for sharing!!!!
I still get teary-eyed thinking about my dearly departed Tigger....
Fought a 9 month battle to keep her alive after she went downhill due to CRF.....it was a daily routine to give her sub-q fluid injections into her back and such.....but that kitty was a trouper.....
After the first couple of weeks of the routine, she realized that the process was making her feel better, and that kitty was never more loving than in the last few monthe of her life.........
I still miss her dearly........

It's horrible having a good pet die... but afterwards, there will awlays be a spot in your heart for them....

I bet Tigger was a strong and brave kittie, Mark.....
- Luke.

I ran across this while browsing Accuweather.com's weather blog and thought it would fit right in with this thread.
Dateline: Mount Washington Observatory – (White Mountains, New Hampshire)

All About Marty the Cat
... Cats have had a nearly continuous presence at the Observatory since its founding years in the early 1930s. The first cats were usually strays that were brought up to help keep the mouse population in check and also of course for some companionship, especially since the observers in those days stayed on the summit for much longer than one week at a time. ...

They are good guys, these firemen. When we had a house fire a while back the worst damage was done by smoke. We were away and thank goodness our neighbour's daughter came in to feed our old boy and raised the alarm in time. The firemen were great and gave our poor old Woodbridge 2 cylinders of oxygen and certainly saved his life. He had, of course, been asleep on our bed but was eventually found cowering in a downstairs room, completely black instead of ginger and white!

A week at the vet's and he was able to live out the rest of his 21 years.

Richard, this picture must have been on omen. I currently have one of those little grey ones in my kitchen. Been eluding the two kitties for an hour already. Ok, he just moved into the living room. Got front and back door open, hoping it will make it's dash for freedom. That is why kitties need claws.

It just made it's dash outside and we brought the kitties in. Hope it finds it's way back to his family ;)

Never a dull moment around here. I was rooting for the mousie by the way. Last year I found a baby mouse, swimming for it's life in a waterbowl outside. It got to live too and I don't think the kitties were any wiser.

Did you ever take on a 'project kitty'?....

Tip for kitty lovers.....

My Tigger II was always a little standoffish....very independent......
A few weeks ago, I started forcing her to sit or lay down with me and let me pet her gently......the change has been amazing....
Not that I ever ignored her, just let her go her own way.....

But I have said this here before.....kitties give what they get....she is now laying here at my feet, just sooooooo happy to be with me.....

If any of you has a kitty that you wish was a bit more receiving of your attention....try it for a few weeks.

You don't wanna get too forceful about it, but make kitty sit and let you give her (or him) some very gentle petting...neck scratching and chin rubbing seem to be favs......and you might be surprised if you don't have a new kitty friend after a few weeks of 'luv treatments'....

Same thing happened with Lori's new kitty Starbucks.....
The shelter insisted that he wasn't a lap kitty and was very independent....
After a few weeks in his new home, with proper attention to his kitty needs...he is the most loving kitty you could imagine. No longer hangs out in the basement, wants to be around Lori, I, and the other kitties all the time.
He and Oscar have become best buds, and obviously enjoy each other's company....and his human slaves' as well.

30 years of Garfield.

Unfortunately....that means the time is going to come, all too soon, that Jim Davis is going to retire. That will be a sad day.
