Chess challenge 19

White to play and win in 2 moves.

.

pawn g4 to g5, check
king h6 to h5
queen c3 to h3, CM.

..no further comments.. ;-)

btw.. where do all you seti-users hiding?

Hi Moon!!! :]]

Um, there is one further comment...

I'm sorry, but I disagree with your solution. If "queen c3 to h3", then Black just takes the Queen! Be6xQh3 EEK!!! You see, by moving the pawn g4-g5+ you opened up the diagonal for the Bishop to defend, including h3. Nice try, though! :]]

I think the solution is

1. Ra5-h5+; KxR (forced)
2. Qc3-f6++

im sorry, but i disagree with your solution :-)
king can not take rook, because it puts it in check with the white pawn.
I think we are both wrong. Yey! haha

Heheh. You're right, that was a typing mistake. I meant PxR, the pawn takes the Rook (Tower). In fact that's part of what makes this clever little puzzle work! The pawn, by taking the Rook, blocks off any escape for its king by just being on h5.

But then you're smart enough to know what I meant. :]]

You caught me on that typo, I'll give you that!

mmmmhhh.. Im not smart..im just lucky.
Cheers! ;-))

Moon tells me she is too busy to have a go at this right now since she needs to clean some apartments tomorrow. One in particular she says needs heavy attention. Something about full of beer bottles after this one guy from England keeps having parties ;)

Oh yeah? Prove it! You can't, can you. Huh? Huh? Huh?

But I can..and did!

And if it was that easy, how come nobody else posted the answer either? Huh? Huh? Huh?

I think you've been "hoist with your own petard" as Shakespeare put it. LOL

Maybe the referee of these chess challenges was sitting next to her when she worked her solution out ;)

Whether he was or not, I'll be posting the solution and next challenge when I get home from work, if an early sunny garden here in Surrey UK doesn't hold me up too much :)

There's no problem. :]]

I was just teasing Moon a bit for her brash statement that the last problem was so easy it wasn't even worth posting. It takes a while Ice, to learn the best mix of easy and hard problems most suitable for Setizens. Make them all hard, and most people get frustrated and stop even trying; make them too easy and you'll get the occasional griping. You should have some easy ones also though: for beginner players, to keep their interest and give them the satisfaction of an occasional solve. It's all about promoting an interest in the game/art/science of Chess, don't you think?

This is something new for you, hosting a Chess thread. You're doing fine! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it before long. :]]

Cheers!

Cheers Beets. I'll keep posting the puzzles and hope people will have a go and enjoy the puzzles, easier or harder, as long as I can find the puzzles to post, and as long as people have a go ;)

It looks good, but ..... Qh3 to f3, instead of pxf6, will block white Q to CM - and would thwart a CM in 2 moves
Please try again... I hope you will ;)
