What is your guy's advertised internet speed vs your actual one and how much are you paying for it?

I get 6 mbit down at home for $30 a month and something like 500 kbit up. This is road runner cable...

Comcast HSI, 8Mb down, 1Mb up @ $59.95/mo. Actual speeds reach 22Mb down, 1.7Mb up. Can't wait for DOCSIS 3.0 to reach my area!

So are you throttled on BitTorret?

What makes you think I run BitTorrent? ;-)

I wouldn't know if I was or not, as I artificially limited my usage via my BitTorrent client so as to not 'suck up' all my own bandwidth while doing other things, and yet I still achieved decent up/down speeds anyway (well, decent for me). I hardly use BitTorrent as it is, so I usually leave my client shut off unless I need something.

...

Advertised: 53 kbps
Actual: typically 38 to 45 kbps
Paying: $16.95 U.S. / month

... Just thought I'd remind you that not everybody lives where broadband is available, and what a bargain it is if you need to transfer a lot of data.

T-1, and I get the advertised speed, plus a pretty strict SLA.

But it costs $360/month.

"Affordable" broadband. T-1 is available just about everywhere, at some price.

That actual speed of 22Mb for download is the "power boost" which only applies for the first 10MB of a download. After that you will be near the 8Mb down.

Trust me, that's not true. I download large files all the time and depending on the server on the other end, I get 22Mb throughout. One example is when I download the latest ATi CCC drivers, which are anywhere from 44MB to 80MB large, and I get the full 22Mb speed throughout.

Wow, great deal! I have Verizon 3M/768k, 29.99/Mo. I've run speed tests here and there, get about an average of 2.8M/700k, using Speedtest.net

Problem is one has to be less than 9000' from the Verizon CO nearest to You, If one isn't there's always 3M/768K still.

I get this for free, but I don't where it's comming from.Perhaps a school down the block or a neighbor.Been getting it for over a year and a half, with no problems. But their is always the worrisome thought that it could vanish at any time.I have no controll of it.

I can't remember what speed I am paying for (2M/256k?), but it is Business Class Road Runner for $85/month. Guaranteed 1 hour service calls. Nice for my business. I'll check my home RR also.

Not sure on price for broadband connection, just changed package as I get telephone line and cable TV, with extra box, as well. Total package is £50 ($100).

Sirius, you might want to check with Virgin, that sounds expensive to me for 2Mbit, or have you been informed they are doubling speeds, soon, at same cost. Thats why I re-negotiated contract, reduced cost by £23, but don't get speed increase.
