Well.....when this code is ready, it's gonna change the landscape a bit......
I just saw the Phased Penny complete a 72 pointer in 2,458 seconds.....
An hour ago, running 2.4v code, it took 3,600 seconds.......

The pot is a boilin', my friends.......

EDIT.....and a 52 pointer go from 3073 seconds to 2005 seconds....

Showoff !!!

But, do you know what I just saw.....

Thurston is the TOP Q6600 on the project

The top hosts offset=40 still has him at #2 just behind the leader, but if you look at Thurstons current RAC he has passed the leader. Nevermind that MadCat might not have reported yet today. Sorry MadCat, your turn is coming soon enough.

Thurstons RAC gain ~186 on 01 April.

LOL.......not tryin' ta upstage ya, my friend......
This is most exciting stuff......and you certainly have had your hand in it.....
Looking forward to seeing Fred's graphs tomorrow night....I'll ramp the Phased Penny back to 2.4v code in the morning before I go to work....seems such a shame, but I am just testing, afterall.
I am just as excited as a kitty in a tuna cannery.........
Jumpy as a kitty lickin' a 9v battery.....(I actually saw that once....LOL).

Shocking, Kitties getting a charge? Hmm, Must be that New T-Rex app(One of the 2 new Alex-JD-Jason-?-Windows apps maybe? As It covers ground in huge strides and takes HUGE bites out of It's prey, CHOMP, Rip, Swallows meat). ;) CapitalOne has a commercial on TV that's right up Your alley Mark, "More Kittens???" they say. Frozen Penny, Hmmm, Sounds like Lincoln needs an igloo there. brr. ;)

Hey......ya know the kitties are always hungry........
But all BS and joking aside.......
The test code I am running right now is not quite even finished yet.......
Jason is working on it as his time allows.....and JD is contributing his findings as well.......
I think the current plan (pending the time Jason has available and ironing out some licensing issues) is to release a good working code very soon, and then polish and tweak it even more for a few more percent based on the platform...using Intel's PGO to tweak it to the last degree.
Jason is such a madman......gotta luv them Aussies......GO Jason!!!!
And the Whaler!
And Alex!

JD..I'm standing in a line that's probably...ummmm...say 3000 crunchers long to say thanks. So here it is. Thank you very much!

Here are a few suggestions for possible names for your accomplishment....

"WhalePort"...hmmmm....biggest whaling port in the US is (was) Nantucket...."Nantucket" (sounds like an Intel project).....or "KillerWhale"....or "Cream of Whale" (bad mental image, that)..."Chicken Of The Sea" (!?)...or maybe "Jonah" for the biblical or "Ahab" for those both literary and spiritual....."QueeQueg" (Nah...that's certainly misspelled))...."Ishmael" (here we go again)..."Harpoon" (kinda like that one)......msattler should like this one...."JD Whale's Cream Of Baby Harp Seal, Kitty Lip Lickin' Good" (oh now....really you've gone too far! This has gotta stop!.....

There once was a Whale from Nantucket..
Who's code was so fast ya couldn't buck it.
He dissed all the Macs,
Who stopped dead in their tracks....

I better stop now......LOL.

It is of course JD's to name if he chooses to, and he has I think, "WhalePort". But if it isn't to be "WhalePort", then "Moby Dick" says it nicely I think.

Well.......
The final release of the porting will probably be done by Jason......
JD has contributed admirably, but will not be the one who finally releases the code......and JD acknowledges this..........
Soooooooooo......Kittyclaw app gets my vote......
But Jason gets the naming rights.........I think....
Very minor detail really......
Get the code in the hands of the crunchers.........
And it will happen soon.........

Let's not forget Linux too... Windows code is still much faster than Linux, and in theory there should be no difference in performance.

Still seems that noone knows how to do the same optimised coding on Linux, and there lies a much bigger performance gain for a bit more work.

I'm also looking forward running the new code on my quaddies too!

Andy.

Sorry Andy, but I am a Humpback whale. I hope that all of us have seen Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and know what an important part the Humpbacks play in our future. One of the better StarTrek movies, IMO. ("Where do you keep the nuclear wessels?") LOL... You better not go putting me in a can ;-)

Jason and the crew at Lunatics have put much more work into this project than I have. Ultimately they have the responsibility and naming rights. While it is true that we collaborated, Jason has not seen my ported code, nor have I seen his. I am just glad to have helped a bit and to be a part of the project.

My WhalePort code is not in a state that would meet coding standards required for a release. I make no excuses and have no desire to make it so. Most my past experience has been in the R&D environment where standards are lax and we always have passed our code to those than can make it meet standards, release it, and support it. Rapid prototyping, proof of concepts, hotfixes, and such is a totally different type of coding than a lasting, maintainable project like this must have. I hate neat code, because I don't want to write it. You know how is with some folks, nobody else can read their handwriting. That is the way I code, it's not very readable.

I have my personal version that I can tweak and try new things with. I am content away from the spotlight.... But not until I can Catch a FREEZING PENNY!!!

Intel makes their compiler and some other tools available for free on Linux & Mac as long as it is not for profit. There should not be the hurdles/restrictions to port to Linux. Though I'm not sure about finding an IDE like MicroSoft Visual Studio that's available for Linux. Others might comment.

Whales are too big to can(But don't tell the Japanese fisherman who says that the Whales that they catch are for scientific experiments only and then the meat makes It's way to (surprise, surprise) the fish market).

Good Luck catching that frozen Lincoln, As It's stinkin fast. :)

Of course If LN2 were practical for 24/7 use, You might catch and pass Him and the MACs too. :D

Obviously your R&D coding will match my R&D hardware exactly. What do you know about DSP's.

Aren't they made by FreeScale ? That's about all I know and only found that out a couple days ago researching function calls. It's that the vector processing unit on the Power Macs that gave them the video editing advantage over Intel based systems? I think that we used to have similar hardware hooked to both out inhouse systems and mainframes... Used to call them "array processors"... Some the size of phone booths made by a company named Floating Point Systems (FPS) out of Beaverton, Oregon. Department of Defense got real worried when we started exporting them to China back in the mid-1980s.... Sorry, I'm rambling... must be time for bed.

Hi There, Just for info ,
The r26 SSE4.1 version has been built on an E8400 and I am doing a test run on mine now, which is also running conservatively OC'd to 3.6GHz just like yours. If you are running 2.4V SSSE3 [I see you are] then you might want to compare the times ... Looks like a mid range AR ~0.38 (~74 credit) take about 4400 seconds on yours, and 2800 seconds on mine. output ratio is 1.57 times, speedup component is ~36%. Some angle ranges are better performance , some are lower than this.
