This might have been stated before and i most wasting my time writing this but here we go.

I have worked out way so that Win9x does not hang and have to force you to reboot.

(1) all you have to do is stop the boinc_gui.exe from starting at bootup.

(2) change the boinc_gui.exe in the startup menu to the boinc_cli.exe and just minimize the dos window and let it run.

(3) if you have to restart your computer remember to maximize the boinc dos window and press ctrl + break to exit the program and then restart.

hope this helps some ppl out with the win9x hanging problem.

this how i am using boinc on all windows based machines now with no probs.

Happy crunching

Cheers Quail

I thought 4.09 took care of this.

The game High/Low is played by tossing two nuclear warheads into the air. The one whose bomb explodes higher wins. This game is usually played by people of low intelligence, hence the name High/Low.

4.09 does fix this problem...I have run it for almost a week with no problems.

Download and install v4.09. All will be solved. I got it earlier today and have done several units with no problems at all. Didn't even have to reboot after the install.

Thanks to all who worked on this issue. I know we complained a lot about it, but it was only cuz it is that important to us.
We do really, REALLY appreciate the work you did getting all of the Win9x'ers back in the fray.
