Albert, I know what you mean. Even when food is really good, when you eat too much of it, you get tired of it. The new Hot Beef pies are getting real good too. Mine are from Maple Leaf..6 minutes in the microwave and they're done. The have that silver wrap now that browns the top nicely. :]] |

Hi Beets. I have a simple and practical explanation for the time differences you have asked about. There is the time it takes for the cremation to be complete plus a minimum cooling time before the remains can be safely handled. Lets say as an example 3 hours plus 1 hour cooling. This correlates with what the management have told you. Now this is the practical bit from the workers point of view; from experience I know that fresh warm ash is very difficult and unpleasant to collect, the super fine particles become airborne with the slightest disturbance and scooping and pouring ash into a container creates large clouds of dust in the air. Very unpleasant in a confined area(inside the furnace). On the other hand if the furnace is opened and left to get completely cold an interesting thing happens , the super fine ash particles absorb moisture from the air (not enough to appear wet or damp)and stick together becoming less likely to become airborne and much easier and pleasant to handle. Therefor the workers, unless forced by a high demand for the furnace will always prefer to work in a cold furnace and tell people it takes 9 hours (6 hours to get cold). Purely a practical reason for the discrepancy in the times told to you. I hope this helps ease your mind Beets and my writing isn't too clumsy. Its early for me and I haven't had my second coffee yet. Take care Beets and allow yourself some time to grieve,it is a process after all. [edit:spelling] :) |

Hi Beets. Hey Monday! :]] Thanks for this explanation! For some reason, on Monday Dad was the only cremation but they delivered him anyways after 4 hours, only about an hour's cooling. But I understand: you're right about the time explanation not neceessarily being a scam, just a usual expectation. That "unparanoids" me a lot! Thanks!!! GOD BLESS!!! Beets |

Ohhh! You're lucky there, Albert! I used to have great Chinese food in Toronto, but they don't do good Chinese food in the Maritimes, sadly. Cabbage instead of soyabean sprouts in eggrolls etc. Pffft! Think of me when you're enjoying your next one, and count your blessings! Beets |

Beets I don't know if you have them there or not, but Healthy Choice make some excellent meals. They are not too large and not too small. and are filling. They have some very good flavor as well. They come with an entree, vegies and a desert. I think you will like them, and they only take three to five minutes in the microwave. Also I am glad to hear that you have come to terms with all that has happened over the last week. Remember try not to bottle this up inside. Let it out if you feel like you need to cry do so it is not a sign if weakness, it just shows that you are human. Your friend, Bob btw excuse any typing errors as I am typing this with only one hand. I hurt my right shoulder in a fall this winter. Bob What you do today you will have to live with tonight |

Good morning Dear Friends... Yesterdays Update: Yesterday was a strange day for me, not an unpleasant one, just strange. It started off usual enough, I lit votive candles for Dad, said the prayer for the dead, shaved and had breakfast, fed the kitty, and so on. Then I made calls to some of the utilities to make some payment arrangements. It was a bit of a shock to see how much was owing but I think I made arrangements that will work out. So it seemed like an ordinary weekday. Around 3:00 p.m. I drove into the heart of "Uptown" (downtown to most of you). First I started down the hill that ends up at Trinity Church. The steet was lined all the way down this long hill with cars on both sides. "You see Dad", I said, "You're not the only good person that has passed on this week." In my blinkered state, and because the business were taking calls this morning, I didn't realized it was Good Friday. DOH! When I got to Uptown, things really got surreal. There wasn't a single person or car on the streets! It was like being in one of those strange sci-fi films where the whole population disappears from some nuclear or gas haulacost! I expected to see a tumbleweed blowing down the street at me. Wow! Was that ever strange! I stopped at the hydro company to pay my power bill and it was closed up too. Then it started to dawn on me that there must be a religious holiday going on, and that this was in fact Good Friday. Still enthralled by the complete absence of people, I drove around Uptown for a while, drinking in the town so silent and still. It was still weird-feeling but quite pleasant. I saw a number of small places I usually miss because I'm going too fast in traffic. I got home and decided I'd just lay down and see if there were any Easter Parades on TV...and promptly fell asleep until past midnight. I figured I'd better get to sleep again, or I'll totally mix-up the night and day. So that's what I did. I may get to think of these last couple of days as my "Sleeping Beauty" period. :]] GOD BLESS!!! Beets |

Thanks Bob!!! I'll definitely try out those "Healthy Choice", even though the brand name is a bit odd to me; I mean..that sounds like a brand designed for expensive dry dog food kibbles, doesn't it? :]] I don't know whether I'm bottling up my sadness for Dad's dying, or not. It's a very different set of feelings than I had when my Mom died. When I got home from the hospital after my Mom died, I got Rebel and Pooh-Bear, and took them for a long free run through the empty suburb streets. That was something they were used to doing with me, chasing the car as I drove slowly down the streets late at night, as it was now at 3:00 a.m. They were so happy, so filled with natural joy at this outing, that it made my heart burst with bittersweet joy. When I got home with them I was exhausted and fell into my large queen-sized empty bed, clothes on. I was immediately overcome with classic grief: I cried, I wailed, I even keened loudly. Pooh-Bear looked concerned and troubled, but puzzled; Rebel somehow understood my circumstances. He immediately jumped up on the bed and nuzzled me a lot, consoling me tirelessly. I lay that way for quite a while, on my side holding Rebel tightly against my chest, spooning him, crying my heart out. With Dad's dying (so far) there hasn't been any crying. I feel wistful, sad, sentimental, hurt, but I haven't been crying even though I feel the sense of loss keenly. It's a more final loss: I am all alone, no parents left. But I'm feeling it as a deep but smooth sorrow, not as the sharp sense of loss I had with my Mom dying. The human heart is mysterious, even mine to me. GOD BLESS!!! Beets |

Beets. Sounds like you are working through things OK. The crying is inevitable, it will happen and sometimes when you least expect it. Stay strong :) Hi Andy!!! They keep claiming that my little burgh will soon be the Energy Hub of the Eastern Seabord. Huh! I'll believe it when I see the first decent Chinese restaurant open up. ;] |

If it is any consolation we don't have a "decent" Chinese restaurant where I live either. I have to do a 60 mile round trip for good Chinese food. Well worth it though ;) We do have a home delivery Chinese here, which I tend to use once a week, but sometimes it's nice to get our for food and have a change of scenery. |
