Hope Starbucks settles in well.

My 2 have dragged half the garden in today - mud everywhere, that's the trouble with the weather being wet for weeks on end!

LOL.....missed that post total......
Our kitties are strictly indoors.....so unless they drag something up from the litter box, no mud here......
Well, gotta go get ready to start making kitty introductions......

Well....
The preliminary introductions were a little rough........
Callie, the elder, the female, whom I expected to be the most stand-offish, sniffed and growled a bit and then went nose to nose with the new member of the family.......not a bad greeting.....
Oscar, on the other hand.....the male laid back Maine Coon,........was irate as could be........sniffed and growled....and snapped at me (which he has never done)...
I took Starbucks down to the basement to show him the litter boxes, and Oscar came racing down the stairs......vrooooooooooom.......
i guess he considered himself the king of the castle......
WOW.....
Kept them apart, but it's gonna take some adjustment for the two of them to get together......they didn't quite get into it, and that's a good thing, because if two cats have a fight, it can imprint that for life........

They will be introduced more slowly over the next few days, and I have good faith that the kitty family will be very happy together.......

Thanks for the update Mark. Yep it is the quiet ones you have to look out for, but I bet once Starbucks earns Oscars repect all will be fine.
We went thru that when Ziggy moved in. Let me tell you, that shy little runt showed his meddle and put the puppies into their place. Now they are best buddies and sometimes even play tag.
Maybe soon I can get my kids to take some pics or videos.

Aww, hope the kitty introduction works out OK Mark. Starbucks couldn't have gone to a better home, hope the other kitties are as generous as you are.

How has Starbucks settled in now Mark? Are the kitties getting along ok?

Coming along, although slowly. Not uncommon when integrating a new kitty into an existing family.
The elder Callie is to the point where she does not seem to have a problem with the new Starbucks kitty. Not real friendly yet, but sniffs at him a bit when he gets close, no more growls or hisses. We don't have to worry anymore about the two of them getting into it.
The other male, Oscar, is still being stand-offish, and is a bit bothered when the new arrival is out and about....he's so used to being the center of attention, and feels threatened with another male in the house. But I was over there for dinner last night, and spent an hour or so with Starbucks on my lap, and Oscar on hers, and he finally calmed down for a while.
We just have to avoid a major confrontation between the two at the beginning, because if they get into it badly early on, it will imprint that on both cats for a long long time, and we want to avoid that. So we are letting Oscar take his time to warm up to the new resident.
It will take time, and I am sure all parties will be as happy as can be together.
Starbucks in the meantime, is turning out to be a real cool kitty!!!! The shelter had said that he was rather independent, and not much of a lap kitty, but last night he sat on my lap for a looooooong time and was very appreciative of the gentle petting. He came from a home with several young children and a couple of dogs, and I am not sure that he got as much attention as he could have. Most cats will start to return more love and attention to you if you give it to them. He obviously is veeeeery happy in his new home. He stays locked in the basement during the day while Lori is at work to keep him apart from Oscar....we found his secret snoozing place on an old couch. But he doesn't hide down there anymore when she gets home, he comes right out and wants to come upstairs for treats and dinner. And he loves to look out of the windows in the sunroom at the birds that are arriving with spring.

I recall when my kitty Tigger died from CRF, and a number of weeks later I got the 3 new kittens, that the elder Squirrel took almost a month to warm up to them. We are not worried, just have to work with them a bit and all will be wonderful with the new, improved kitty family.

Mark, one thing is for sure - he's gone to the right loving person :)

Can I also be the first to congratulate you on your impending 11,000,000 whilst I at the same time celebrate my impending 400,000 later today?
