I saw that bit on the news a few days ago........
Did you notice that all of the 'strays' in the news footage looked all pretty fat 'n sassy........no skinny foodless shadow kitties.....hmmmmmmmmmm....somebody must be feeding them pretty well..........

Their plan was apparently scuttled after the booming population of 178 people in Randolph (and a few zillion of us from the neighboring big cities) voiced opposition to it.

Thanx, Scarecrow......
TNR works...........
For those of you who aren't aware, TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, and Return.
TNR programs are there to stop the stray kittty population without resorting to trap and kill........
If only some people would stop and realize.........
IT'S NOT THE CAT'S FAULT....IT IS OURS.........
WE put them out there........
They did not choose to be homeless.........
Ferals are ferals.........it's not their fault..........

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, and Return

Or as Drew Carey said (after taking over for Bob Barker on The Price is Right)....

I'm in support of TNR's- because it does work and no one and no cat gets punished for it... The way I see it- TNRs are win-win situations. Sure, the strays and ferals are still around- but their life span is drastically lower than that of their home-bound kitty counterparts. The last I knew, the average life span of strays / ferals was three to five years.

That being said- Sioux City council has intstituted an ordinance aimed at people who are animal horders- but it ends up restricting the rest of us.

Residence within city limits are no longer permitted more than 3 animals per household. That is- 2 of one species and 1 of another with cats and dogs.

To have three or more- for a fee of $ 10 a year- a person is required to obtain a permit from Animal Control and have it signed by up to 9 neighbors- verifying they know exactly how many pets you own.

That's just BS.......
I'll have 50 cats in my home if I so desire.......
As long as they are properly cared for and looked after....
I do not condone those who end up with too many animals to care for properly.....and the whole home ends up as a litterbox......
But I surely would have more than my four kitties if I could afford it.......
Gimme the lottery, and I would buy a castle for all homeless cats......

In the meantime.....all I can do is contribute to the local shelter when I can, and pray that God bless those who are in charge of their care...........

There is no such thing as a feral cat looking for a home and love. All it takes is patience. So what if it takes two years to earn their trust, I have been there and done it. Give them food and water and allow them to set the terms.

Mark and all other posters, if you win the Lottery and give the strays a home, I will help to clean the litterboxes. Didn't play this week so I can't win.

You and your pooper scooper will not be needed over here, at least not until the next drawing. Dang it!

Another kitty poem............

Sleeping with the kitties........

As my day goes off to it's usual end
I am gone off to sleep with my kitties...my friends.
They are my only care, for forever it seems,
And they luv me and keep me so safe in my dreams.

Their trust is so golden, for without it I'd find
a life with no faith, or could happiness be mine.
And little kitten paws that touch me as I lay down to sleep
Will always be there in the morning when I awake.

They don't ask for much, just a cuddle now and then.
And still their big eyes touch your heart now and again....
The kitties ask so little, 'cept for your kind loving care
And return it so much..and they always are there.

So when'ere you see a lost kitty, please friend....
Take heart, not a cruel thought for their little end.
They were created by God, just as were you and I,
And are looking for homes to be loved by and by.

Please don't take me to task for my luv of the kitties......
My silly, sad poems and the one-off done -dittys....
My feelings are true, and I'll often express 'em.....
My eternal true luv of the kitties and kittens....

Too adorable guys- just too adorable.

msattler- I am personally offended by this ordinance- I think like you do that it's complete BS. Mostly because I do not believe it's fare to impose on all the people for the actions of 'a few'.

The other reason is that this was decided upon by the city council- THEY voted on it, THEY imposed it. THEY did not place it to the people for a vote.
I can tell you if they had- it would have been shot down.

People here like their privacy, they don't want their neighbors in their business- and this includes their pets.

To me, IMO - this ordinance stinks of a city council trying to squeeze out every possible penny from the residence. Like they don't think it's enough they impose 'metered parking' at the public library. yup- you have to PAY to park in front of the downtown public library in Sioux City Iowa.

So this animal restriction ordinance comes as NO surprise.
But $ 10 a year- on top of having 9 neighbors signatures?
I don't believe that it's anyone else's business how many animals I have-
mine stay indoors, they don't bother anyone, and my place does NOT stink like a kitty box.

I can hardly wait until I'm done with this math program of my degree-
Then it's asta'la meow meow- and me and my kitties are headed EAST.

-------

Here's a poem I wanted to share will everyone. The author is unknown:

msattler- I think you'll like this one- it's one of my favorites:

"The Prayer Of A Stray"

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care ! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.

My body is aching, it's so racked with pain. And dear God I pray as I run in the rain,

That someone will love me and give me a home. A warm cosy bed I can call my own.

My last owner neglected me and chased me away to rummage in garbage and live as a stray.

But now, God, I'm tired and hungry and cold. And I'm afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones, while I run in the streets just looking for bones!

I'm not really bad God, please help me if you can. For I have just become a " VICTIM OF MAN !"

I'm wormy, Dear God, And I'm ridden with fleas, and all that I want is an owner to please !

If you find one for me, God, I'll try to be good. I won't run away and I'll do as I should.

I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, cause I'm so afraid God, That I'm gonna die !

And I've got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to live.

So, Dear God, PLEASE, PLEASE answer my prayer and send me somebody who WILL really care.

This is another of my favorite kitty poems-
I did change it from male to female in memory of my beloved best friend- Pita.

Lend Me a Kitten

I will lend you for a while, a kitten, God said.
For you to love while she lives, and mourn when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three,
But will you, 'til I call her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you and, should her stay be brief,
You'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

I fancied that I heard them say " Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done”
For all the joys this kitten brings, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness; we'll love her while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.
But should you call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed your wishes to achieve,
Then in memory of she whom we loved, please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needy soul for us to love all her life.
