Finally managed to clean up this P4 1.5ghz but as you can see from the messages above, it still has problems.

Please could you use [color=red] to highlight the relevant part or just post the few lines with the problem.

hostid for the computer would help too.

Not sure about those missing output files, though I do have just a couple of Ideas/Guesses. Maybe run memtest86 on the memory to check they're OK, a broken memory stick I suppose could interfere with boinc shared memory communications, Also maybe a software firewall is blocking something?

Also as you have just been cleaning up the machine, did you update the motherboard (and other) drivers too? maybe somethings's not quite right with those (particularly hard drive controller).

Sorry Keith. I have tried using the color code in the past but kept messing up.

Anyway, I don't know what the problem is which is why I posted the whole column so someone could see what it is doing.

Hi Jason, everything is okay & all programs running okay, all drivers & o/s up to date.

The only thing I spotted was the Intelx86.exe failing to download but it looked like it corrected itself. Once this is loaded it fetchs new tasks then returns them as task absent.

Have checked firewall, no problems. nothing else on system that I can think of that could be blocking boinc.

[Edit] I don't know if this helps, it's a Dell Dimension 4300 - I have had problems with Dell systems in the past which is why I don't like them, but my neighbour was begging me to repair it. I agreed as long as he would allow s@h. At the moment, I have it on NNT[Edit]

Okay digging a bit more... Not sure if this is it yet, but I have read that the 0xc0000135 error in your results might be due to a missing runtime DLL from either MS visual C Runtime or .Net framework ...

Have you installed dotNet Framework 1.1 or 2 yet?

If either of those things might be the cause then those should be obtainable as a microsoft download... I'll keep looking a bit further in case something other information turns up.

BBCode is realy easy once you get used to it. It is a bit like HTML with [ and ] instead of < and >. [/color] is used to close a piece of colored text, [color=red] or [color=blue] etc is used to open it. [b] makes things bold.

I tried a search for the error message you are getting - exit code -1073741515 (0xc0000135)

Try this search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1073741515&btnG=Google+Search

BTW the new <Preview> feature is very useful when posting using BBCode

Here is a link to other files that might possibly be missing Here , Visual C Redistributables (Runtime Files) Not sure which version of Visual C that version of Boinc client would have been built with, But those are more that likely the right ones if any are needed by Cruncher's app (I am Only guessing he uses Visual Studio 2005, with Vista Service Pack). Other versions of the Microsoft Visual runtime Redistributables are in the same area.

These files are normally installed by an install program, for programs that need them ....

Brief Description
The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.

Just finished checking & downloading on system. It had v2/3 but not v1.1. Downloaded this with the service pack. Reinstalled Boinc which requested repair or modify. Repaired. Will have to wait until tomorrow to see if that cleared the problem as the server won't download any more tasks as that rig has reached its daily quota of 48.

Here's hoping that has cleared the problem. Many thanks for the help & advice guys. It really is appreciated.

[Edit] Just in case they might be required, I've downloaded the visual runtime files. [Edit]

As this seems to be a BOINC problem rather than a SETI problem, you could try attaching another project e.g. Rosetta as you already run that.

[EDIT]
SETI Beta would be a good one too if you have the patience to be a Beta Tester

Hi guys, it looks like I have to accept defeat with this one. Switched 3999224 on an hour ago.

It downloaded 3 wu's then returned as task absent. i've tried changing ram,hd,gpu, ribbon cables. Even stripped it down for a complete service. Reformatted & reinstalled everything. Stil no joy.

I've had numerous problems with Dell machines & this one is a lost cause.

Again, many thanks for all your help.

I, on the other hand, have never had any problems with Dells - I'm typing on one now. But then, I keep my machines in good order so I don't have to re-install anything.

1) This is a software problem, not a hardware problem. Forget the stripping down bit.

2) You did reinstall the OS from a Dell recovery disk, didn't you? Saves all that hassle downloading the drivers from the website by service tag. Also, you don't need that dreadful M$ crypto-key that violates every known disability discrimination law (font size too small, and character pairs ambiguous - I usually have to put the whole computer on a flatbed scanner and turn the magnification up - see PC Pro magazine, UK edition, #128 (June 2005), page 16). But I digress.

3) Most significantly - there is, again, no sign of a start-up copyright and information message from the SETI Science Application. From your massive log at the beginning of this thread, I see:
16/11/2007 13:13:25|SETI@home|Started download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe
...<snip>...
16/11/2007 13:17:18|SETI@home|Temporarily failed download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe: http error
16/11/2007 13:17:18|SETI@home|Backing off 1 min 0 sec on download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe
16/11/2007 13:17:42|SETI@home|Started download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe
16/11/2007 13:18:40|SETI@home|Finished download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe

so I would suspect a corrupt application file. Have you tried CPU-Z and an optimised app, in that order?

Thanks Richard.

1: It needed it anyway. He had it tucked away in a corner & had not touched it for nearly 2 years - The amount of dust & fluff was unbelievable.

2: Yes. (Quite agree!)

3: Will try optimised & use CPU-Z to check.

Reattached to Rosetta as Keith suggested but same thing happened there which, led me to believe it could be Boinc.

Quick tip! Once Windows installed, I always install Belarc Advisor after everything is installed, then print it out & keep it in a file for every system. It gives every detail about that system including product keys.

I looked at your Rosetta results http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=666596. Did you return the results yet?

As the problem is common to more than 1 BOINC project you may have some luck posting to the BOINC Message Boards.

There shouldn't be any wu's outstanding on Rosetta. Experienced same problem so detached from project.

I'm no longer crunching for Rosetta because they took over all my systems & s@h didn't get a look in.

Originally a seti classic cruncher & quite happy to just crunch theirs.

Sorry to hear that you had trouble with Rosetta. I think it was probably down to Resource Share (RS) and Long Term Debt (LTD).

I currently have my RS set as follows:

SETI 50
SETI Beta 10
Rosetta 10
LHC 25
RALPH 2.5
Leiden 2.5

When you attach a new project to BOINC the default is 100, but if you add up my RS figures you can see that the total is 100. My Athlon XP runs all 6, my old P233 only runs 4 (does not have enough RAM to run Rosetta or RALPH).

---

When I first looked at your results, and saw the error "- exit code -1073741515 (0xc0000135)", I did a Google search on 1073741515 which returned over 700 results (the top 2 were from SETI and Einsten, both BOINC projects.). I did not have time then to follow up on more than the first few of those, or to try a better search.

I have now tried a few more variations on Google, and other searches. This Einstein@Home thread looks like a promising lead. See also http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=41655&nowrap=true#621756

All the pointers I have got so far look like a missing DLL, possibly mspdb80.dll. It also looks graphics related.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_search.php did not return any results.

Try a few more searches with variations of your error message, check display drivers are correct and up to date. Try uninstalling BOINC completely, delete BOINC folder, then re-install.

Good Luck, Keith
