From what we know in these relatively early stages, which candidate (Republican or Democrat) would place most focus on NASA projects, and experimental sciences in general? As a "SETI-minded" individual (Kucinich-UFO jokes aside), for whom should we vote? Further space exploration, a manned Mars landing, Europa probes, revisiting the Moon - this is my main area of passion/interest. edit: I'm sorry - I just remembered the "politics" board... should I move this thread? that would have worked if you hadn't stopped me |

Seems to me those who support self-sufficiency as opposed to government dependence would be more likely to spend money in order to further science. That basically eliminates all the Democrat candidates. However, to the best of my knowledge, not one single candidate has used the promotion of science as part of their platform. |

Yep, that was his goal... Smart people can see through it, dumb people buy into it... ;) (And the 'yes men' let him get away with it.) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Brainshmasher has a good point. I'll address my point to the title post in the thread. Bill Richardson is the most obvious answer. He's a Governor who has called for disclosure on ufo documents from the Federal government etc etc. I don't support his candidacy in any way. In fact, I oppose it. But that's the most proper answer to the question you asked. On 2nd thought our beloved Dennis Kucinich has seen a ufo while at Shirley McClaine's house and he felt 'ideas in his mind' and Ron Paul has surely been out on one at some point in his life either physically or spiritually. ---sincerely, Mr. Humorless. Here's a thing that bothers me. Why do you guys got to run down Brainsmasher's job all the time? I've seen you people denigrate his job and insult him with it for over a year. Why do you do that? He's got an honest job. I imagine he's earned the things he has. Why do those of you that consistently advocate for more government jobs and influence over the economic sphere turn around and insult those that work for the government like that? Talk about 'bullying'. Warning! The internet may actually contain real people with real feelings. ----Mr. Humorless. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! It's called hypocrisy and the main reason liberals always have been and always will be a minority. Personally, I enjoy being everything they hate (neo-con) and everything they want (caring for the less fortunate) all at the same time!! I like to call it making a difference, not just crying about it on the 'net. |

I think if you reread the posts in question, you'll find that no one is running down the job. It's the attitudes of the individual holding the job that raise questions. One would think that someone so opposed to social programs and social spending would avoid seeking employment in a government run program. Unless the goal is to be part of the neo-con drive to destroy government programs. A common practice of republican agents is to place fellow believers in positions of control within government agencies to further the damage to the programs, it follows that these opponents of government programs would load their departments with likeminded saboteurs. The real beauty of this plan is that the very same people who drive the programs into oblivion also receive a government pension at the end. Raspberry sound. |

So your contention is that someone opposed to government dependence cannot also possess the very basic human desire to help his fellow man? Not to mention gaining a better sense of self-worth by working rather than by reaching for my wallet. Apparently you don't know much about people and human nature at all... "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"....think about it. I've had the opportunity lately for the first time, to be tutoring some young people with learning difficulties, in various technical (engineering) disciplines. Though a pay cut, this has been unquestionably the most rewarding experience I've yet had in my working life. It has demonstrated to me there are more people willing to learn than there are enough persons willing (or perhaps able) to teach them, and that at least in my students' cases you can profoundly and unexpectedly help some people with your abilities. You can make a difference in your own and others' lives, and give something back that costs you little but your time, energy and a little patience. Don't underestimate the positive impact that achieving pride in your work, along with the bonus improvements to your own self-esteem, has on those around you, students, colleagues, community and family alike. I am guessing Kucinich is the one who said saw an ufo? Then if american seti members vote for him would result to uncover many et stuffs and would intensify arecibo/seti op in the future. Mrs.Clinton is likely person who would support many optimistic projects. (but off course my recognizing is from too much far distance especially culturally and maybe most voters would consider only healthcare, education and war spending rather than science issues) Mandtugai! |

The sad part is you fail to realize just how many people are affected by your desire to criticize rather than contribute, Frenchie....but that's ok, you just keep hollering about how others need to do more and we'll keep taking up your slack :) |

Are you voting for David Duke again...? Read this guy's position on selected issues and if the name and picture were blocked out....you would be convinced it was Duke. Nice example of your good heart mouth. |

Are you voting for David Duke again...? You voted for the Republican, but if Duke was running in the primary we know where your vote would have landed...so don't try to hide behind specifics. If the state of your State's Days Inn's and Scottish Inn's is any indication of what is to become of Louisiana, you're gonna need all the luck you can get. But to be totally fare, your current democratic governor is a political hack of the worst kind. But governors in Louisiana have historically been rather unique in one way or another, including being in federal prison. Account frozen... |

Are you voting for David Duke again...? Yeah, I forgot about all the Grand Wizards with immigrant parents...but at least your intelligence level is consistent. BTW, he's catholic too, or maybe you just thought the KKK was about race...or did you just avoid those select issues LAF |

Are you voting for David Duke again...? Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't vote for entertainers or criminals OR stay at 2nd rate hotels...and to be totally fair, genius, Jindal is the first true Republican governor rather than a party flip-flopper we've had in about 137 years....not unlike David Duke "In 1988, he ran in the Democratic Party primary for President of the United States. After a poor showing in the Democratic primaries, he appeared on many state ballots as the nominee of the Populist Party and received 47,047 votes in the 1988 general election." Maybe you better stick to debating the football team... |
