Remember the Fifth of November . . . Remember John Lennon Remember when you were young? How the hero was never hung Always got away Remember how the man Used to leave you empty handed? Always, always let you down If you ever change your mind About leaving it all behind Remember, remember, today And don't feel sorry The way it's gone And don't you worry 'Bout what you've done Just remember when you were small How people seemed so tall Always had their way Do you remember your Ma and Pa Just wishing for movie stardom Always, always playing a part If you ever feel so sad And the whole world is driving you mad Remember, remember, today And don't feel sorry 'Bout the way it's gone And don't you worry 'Bout what you've done No, no, remember, remember The fifth of November BOINC Wiki . . . SNIP... Interesting. I wondered if "V" was a half parody of the "Last Man In Europe"... (1948 / 1984.) <Orwell.> In the movie "V" had to die. He was a dramatic persona who had to exist and die to spark a forgotten idea. I don't think we will ever know if the actual Guy Fawkes was a terrorist. I don't think he went around the country "terrorising" people. He was a political / religious bomber.... and obviously a bad one at that as he got caught... In the movie for me the real hero / heroin was Evie... or at least I identified with her the most. |

I don't think we will ever know if the actual Guy Fawkes was a terrorist. I don't think he went around the country "terrorising" people. It's an interesting view of the world you have cRuchy. Terrorist today don't have to go around any country "terrorising" people. They can simply strap explosives to themselves, walk into a public area, usually filled with everyday random people who happen to be there at that time, and blow themselves up together with a number everyday people. Guy Fawkes was certainly trying to blow people up, whoever happened to be in Westminster during the State Opening of Parliament. I think we ought to know if that is terrorism or not. flaming balloons |

I'm still trying to figure out what the difference is between a 'terrorist' and a 'common criminal'... Of course, a 'war on crime' would have sounded just as silly... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

I don't think we will ever know if the actual Guy Fawkes was a terrorist. I don't think he went around the country "terrorising" people. First things first. I am not supporting terrorism, bombing or killing. In my city we suffered political bombings through-out the 70s and 80s by organisations like the IRA. (Pub bombings, car bombings, letter bombings, office bombings....) Some called the bombers terrorists others said they were freedom fighters. Yet there are those we call heros today who strapped bombs to themselves during the second world war and died in the blink of an eye along with their targets and victims. It is true in this day and age all someone needs to do is get into the media to affect the minds of millions of lives. I don't think I am wrong in suggesting that we should not call people terrorists unless they actually aim or try to terrorise people. To terrorise people you do not actually need to kill anyone. You could just tell them that their neighbours are canibals... If they have faith in you they will live in terror. There are certainly terrorists in this world... but if we do not define exactly what that means we will never be able to fight them because all we will end up doing is fighting some ethereal or media created demons... |

Some called the bombers terrorists others said they were freedom fighters. I'm not sure whether this was the case with Guy Fawkes, but I suspect it was more about who was trying to gain control over England at the time. But then, isn't that the case with terrorism today? Just replace 'England' with 'America'. (I'm referring to a certain long term aim by a certain group in the world today.) flaming balloons |

Some called the bombers terrorists others said they were freedom fighters. For me 'England' is no more than the hearts and minds of the community and people who live here. Perhaps I don't know enough about Guy Fawkes but I don't think he was a terrorist. I think he was a political / religious activist and a rather bad bomber. Legally he was a criminal but then so were those who tried to blow up Hilter. (At least in the country where they committed the act.) Given the 9/11 attacks in America I can understand fully how people there may feel. It's up to them to heal. One thing I do know is that my older Aunt was in a building in my city that was bombed by the IRA. She was lucky that she survived... but she was also lucky that she had family that had survived the blitz (WW2 bombings) who understood how to turn around her fear and terror and help her survive emotionally.
I don't want to because I think the average person in the USA or the UK (or any other country) just wants the same thing: 'To enjoy life without fear.'
You mean the moderators don't you :o)))~ (Giggles... Sorry... ;o)) |

It is said that the gun powder was old and 'off' and would not have exploded even if Guy Fawkes had managed to light it. It could well be that the people in the group who supplied the gunpowder didn't really want the plot to go as far as the explosion.
If you mean their world is limited here to SETI......... ;) flaming balloons |

I guess he was a bungling fool or someone in his group (cell) sold him out. Maybe he just got knackered from carrying all those barrels of gunpowder and gave himself up? (I'd imagine you would need quite a few wooden barrels full to do any serious explosive damage.) Bottom of the line 'Guido Fawkes' was a faliure and we celebrate his faliure with gusto every year. We even gave him a more British name: Our "Guy"... What could be more British than that. Proud To Be British! |

You sure this Ned & Kelly wasn't a pair of aliens? Or maybe he was some 4000 year old combined geeza with a steel crotch fetish? Original picture page... I'm still proud to be British though :o) |
