There also appears to be a pull down for the "Highest score first" but it only seems to appear when you are in a thread... Is this just me again! If it does indeed sort the answers, on what basis does it do the calculation?

If you look at the bottom of a post, you will see there is an ID number and a score for each post.
If somebody gets an answer, by clicking on "This answered my question", at that moment that post receives a "1" score. If the "Off topic" is used, that post receives a "-1" score.

I'll post another answer, play around with these 2 buttons and use the sorting functions. You will see the results.

I believe this should clear things up.
