Some video cards had capture capabilities but I don't know about now. I bought a dvd/vhs combo to get it done without having the added steps of capture, conversion, burning.

I'd like to make videos some day and would have gone the computer route had I needed it for movie "making". Probably cheaper to get a capture card rather than the combo I went with. Felt bad going backwards just to convert my vhs's to dvd's, which I still haven't done even one yet, lol. Plus I have a laptop which made the choice easier for me.

:)

See my post below for my capture solution. I'll move it to the new thread if needed.

Well, at least that's one solution. Thanks!

With MrGray's permission, I'll go on.

Sarge, I assume you are talking about the S-video ports on laptops. Those are video out only. They allow you to put your video signal out to a TV. I do this with my notebook when watching streaming vids, usually Babylon 5. ;)

The S-video signal works fine for vids, but the resolution is crap when it comes to regular computer video, such as surfing the net. At least on mine it's crap, newer ones are probably better.

Have to be careful because there are a couple kinds of s-video, but the quality should be very high. I use s-vid wires for cable to tv, dvd/vhs to tv, and computer to tv. I use my DVI to flat screen and projector, and SGI out to monitor.
