Anyone have any news about them -- looks like they have been offline for a few hours (since late morning Pacific time). Their homepage is not reachable. The homepage is back. Under the news heading: Outage Notice: The project is down for maintenance..... |

New info from homepage. "The project is down for repairs. The SAN hiccup'd and we're rebuilding the fileserver. We're working as quickly as we can to get things back up and running....." |

Thanks -- I saw that as well -- a file server rebuild -- well that might take a full day or more. Anyway, at least we know what the issue is. New info from homepage. |

I was going to make a post about their servers being down, and how I can't get work and my CPUs are going cold - you know, like everyone does here on SETI and complains about it. But then I thought 'naaah'. I'll take the high road this time. 8-) |

Besides, a much bigger audience here anyway.... I figure if they are lucky, they will have Rosetta back online by the weekend. Might be nice if they posted an interim status report though. Our team is doing a major race on Rosetta so the deluge of people from our team may have had an inadvertent role in this..not sure but they did crash hard. |

Right -- I'm guessing they lost their entire SAN array and thus have to obtain a new array and then restore from whatever backup restore point they maintain. Hence my expectation of a few days to recover. I would like a bit more detail on their homepage flash -- something like, 'we had to replace our SAN, it arrives this morning, then we will work on restoring data, we hope to be online by whatever day they expect'. Not that big a deal for me, I spotted them going offline early and redirected cpu use to other projects (SETI, Climate and Spinhenge in particular are picking up the slack). If the project went down on a SAN (Storage Attached Network} and they have not been able to get back up and running within a few hours then there was a major problem with their D&R (Disaster & Recovery) program. Or looking on the bright side their D&R is very good if they are able to recover within a few hours. I.E. Withing 24 hours. In the UK we had a number of companies recently, who went down due to the adverse weather conditions. Greg. P.S. Off topic @Peter Leman: Win98se, P4 3.0e (Prescott)1gig Ram + ATI 128mb agp 8x card. Windows 98SE doesn't support HyperThreading on those Prescott's you have. You should upgrade to at least Windows 2000 so that you can get better crunching out of them with HT turned on - unless you need 98SE for some reason. |
