Years ago I was driving my car in the Sierra Nevada mountains at about 2,800 meter elevation at 3 o'clock in the morning. I pulled over for a rest, smoked a cigarette, then got out of the car. By this time my eyes had adjusted to the darkness...at this time I looked up at the sky. It was cold out, and the sky was a riot of stars and galaxies, and I was just able to make out a faint comet. The sky was so clear, the air was thin, and there wasn't any other light sources around for at least 50 kilometers.

The sky to the naked eye was what you only see in a wide angle telescope, but wider...the Milky Way was like a bright white carpet...spectacular. To add to this in the background were 4,500 meter mountain peaks with their snow covering dimly lit by the stars...both effects together was as close to an epiphany that I shall ever come across in this lifetime.

Virgin Galactic!

Fixing the URL. Using \\\\ instead of // causes issues...

Oh, and if you can afford 20K to make a downpayment, would you consider paying off my current credit card debt? ;-)

Sorry, I just got out of bed... Don't know the difference between // and \\\\ yet. Except that it looks a bit like a tipee.

I just have to take care of my new 20K debt first:-)
Actually, I have been saving for ten years to be able to go, I have always believed it would come a day when you can go out into space as a normal person.

Here's where we disagree... $200,000 USD is not in the savings possibility of any "normal person", not without bankrupting their retirement savings. When it comes down to $20,000, then you might start talking "near-normal". $200,000 to go is only in the reach of the elite.

My experiences with the elite so far, have indicated that I'm never going to be one of them because I can't step all over people to try to move up the ladder...

I didn't pay 200KUSD I paid 100KEuro. And that is half the price for a normal house. And no, I am not rich or the elite. I just had a really good income during a couple of years. And I saved that income, and now I want to invest it in my dream.
I don't have a big house, no car, I bike and I don't spend much. Except the rent and food my largest bill is actualy the monthly gym-card fee.

I have a two words for you...

Your mean

lol
Jason and Stanley

Sorry Jason and..., Stanley likes Kiera also? But it's true, this snap from a film about England's past claiming our great King Artur was in fact a Briton, but a Roman Centurion as well. (This pic is from Wikipedia:-)

Kiera was some sort of Boadicea of the time, helping to drive out invading Tibetans from Kazakhstan. It was just a film ;) But the only one with a pic of Kiera Knightly looking like this :)

(Apologies for my ISP being down right now, and pics not showing. They usually do their hoovering on a Sunday.)

Speaking of Astronomy, did you know that the Moon and Venus were in close proximity last nite. It was a thing of beauty.

The thing that takes my breath away is realizing that when I look through my telescope at a star formation or a galaxy that light that hits the back of my eye is millions of years old.
