Thumper (the master science database server) has been replaced and is up and running again.

There are huge problems with upload/download most probably because the servers are being clobbered with requests.

So please have patience. And please let your BOINC manager(s) do what they are made to, to contact when it's time. Please don't hit the Update button, your uploads/downloads will get through eventually.

Thank you.

Fuzzy, I think there is more to the problem at the moment than the constant requests from the hosts. If you look at the Cricket graph, throughput dropped abruptly to almost nothing at about 11:30pm last night. Something needs a kick start.

Agreed, but the advice/request is still good.

Yes, and the solution is still patience.

I doubt anything will happen before tomorrow, Matt is out playing, and Jeff and Eric are having their well earned rest after their hard work with getting Thumper up again.

Quite, I've just suspended SETI again to save hammering the servers unnecessarily.

I'll try again tomorrow night, I run several projects so it's not like I'm short of work.

Here's the daily Cricket graph:

It would be realy useful to have a link to this on the Server status page.

Cricket graph time is Berkeley time (UTC -7 hours).

User that read the news on this forum should in the boinc manager set the network activity to suspended for a while. That might help the server a little.
I suspended all my computers for 24 hours. I hope this helps.

Very good suggestion! Would be helpful to have it readily accessable when trying to scope out what is going on when problems arise.

Yes, no hard feelings here. Very thankful that they got this close.
I guess this could be one silver lining in the situation...the WUs in progress stats on the server status page are now over 1 million. So by getting WUs split and assigning them to the hosts without the downloads actually allowing the crunching to commence, at least they should be filling the caches so when things are hopefully reset tomorrow, they have a leg up on the backlog of work requests.

Only SETI should be suspended, suspending network activity stops ALL projects from up or downloading!

Suspending a project (SETI for example) does not stop the Boinc client from trying to upload your finished WUs. The only way to stop the continual attempt to upload is to disable the client network activity. The unfortunate side effect is that you can also now not connect with any other project you may be running. This may not be a desirable option for many users.

I've suspended Seti on all 4 of My PCs and Boinc is still trying to download Seti WU's and Yes I've even set Boinc for No New Tasks, It didn't help. As I'm still getting System Connect errors, I was able to get a couple WU's before the connection went south and as a result They can't be uploaded and I don't want to lose those results, So I'm not willing to detach from Seti.

I finally had to reset the project on My other 3 PCs and when I came back Boinc was saying I had no internet connection and I had stopped Boinc and relaunched Boinc and It still did this, So I reset the Project and I think I lost three completed Seti WU's(Below). But Now all four PCs are suspended as far as Seti goes.

One of my computers somehow got 8 WU and is working on one. How can I transfer the WU that are waiting to run on this computer to my other 6 computers that are just sitting there for days doing nothing with "downloading" in the status column?
Sincerely

Very strange- according to Cricket there is no network traffic, yet i noticed on the server page that there are way more results in progress than there were last night.
Enabled network access again & would have got enough to keep me busy till tomorrowexcept that they are all downloading, pending, retrying etc.

Very little network traffic. But enough to contact the server and request new work. The server assigns the work to the host, but then the host cannot complete the download and actually start to crunch the WU. So, much of the work that shows 'in progress' has not actually been downloaded to the hosts so they can work on it, but it has been assigned to the hosts, so it shows as being 'in progress'.
If they fix the up/download bottlneck tomorrow morning, things should get cookin' pretty good again.

You can transfer that Folder to another PC and replace the current project folder and run the WU's. However, that folder has to be returned to the PC it came from to upload the WU's.

If you have downloads queued for seti or seti beta use proxy 128.32.18.173, will not work for uploads but at least you can get some work done and waiting to return, (please turn it off when your downloads finished to allow others to use it)

See this thread download_fanout and cc_config as a workaround for stuck downloads. It has worked for me and at least 2 other people. It is fairly advanced but it does work, I would not reccomend it for those unfamiliar with editing XML files.

I would also recommend setting SETI to No new tasks until the server load decreases, probably a few days.
