Seems that there are no stored workunits to be had at the time of writing this.
The splitters are creating work but it is going out as soon as it is created so the service may be patchy for the weekend.

To lessen the load on the upload/downloader server Kryten, I am turning on the "No new work" button.

If a good few of us do that then that should prevent the server from being swamped and possibly going offline. Please inform your team members of this.

Graeme.

I am mostlycrunching out Betas right now.
But this has been in the coming for a while since they shortened the quorum before *drumroll and the voice from a professional anouncer* "THE BIG CHANGE!"

All the more reason to have a backup project. In the tech news section, Matt indicated he was adding yet another splitter, so maybe that might help.

As far as I can tell it is up and running, and still the WUs are coming at a steady rate. But, for a short time the Beta was down (ca 60m).

That was a short one:-)

Just deffering for one minute;-)

But there are slight glitches now and then due to waiting for WUs. I had a couple of "minuters" to.

Grab them while you can! 726 results ready to send according to the server status page.

Whoops, thought I was at LHC for a second. . .

(Oh no, as soon as I posted this my SETI credit disappeared from my BOINCSTATS signature. I'm getting paranoid now.)

Splitter # 6 has just been put on line in the last 2 hours !

We now have "galileo" as a splitter as well as penguin, koloth, kosh, klaatu, and the recently added kryten.

Someone at Berkeley has been busy on their Saturday afternoon.

I never thought that S@H would run out of work... well anyway, E@H just fired up second run, taking 4-6x more time per WU to complete... but i hope those issues are only temporary.

Hope, that in passing you read the front page news:

April 21, 2007
As we are close to distributing new data recorded with the multi-beam recorder, we descreased redundancy levels for current data. In the near term, there may be periods when it is difficult to obtain work. Your BOINC clients should retry regularly on their own and will eventually get data to process.

I saw that. It's kind of exciting actually. I can't wait for the new data!

Think there might be a problem here though. Unless the splitters can produce more work we are constantly going to rely on luck to get work, as the new multibeam units actually track less of the universe and therefore crunch in about 70% of the time of present enhanced units.

But...
We have not heard anything if I remember correctly about the quorum on the multibeams. All that I have read is that we are now 2/3 and that we might go to 2/2. But for the multibeams it might be back to 3/4 or why not 3/3.
Remember that right now we are recrunching data if I got it correctly.

Maybe if the new WUs crunch faster they will split faster also? And might the quorum of 3 be reinstated for the new data to go back to the original redundancy?

And the Beta quorum is 2/3 for the beta WUs and 2/5 for the AP WUs. A good guess would be a 3/4 quorum when they go "mainstream".

My own understanding of the 2/3 or even 2/2 quorum is, that it is needed to enable the amount of work produced by 7 beams with horizontal and vertical polarisation. Or another way each period of timed scanned will produce 14 times as many units.
So even if they take 70% of the time to process, compared to the present enhanced units. If that is true it will take 10 times longer to crunch the data coming from Aricebo, so going to 2/2 seems logical to make it only 5 times longer. And hope future hardware developments and software optimisation like we have seen over the last 8 years will allow us volunteers to catch up again.

Thank you for the clarification:-)
But, correct me if I am wrong, those won't be run by a tape splitter. Instead they will be split from a harddrive instead, thusly increasing the splitting speed?
