I can not report results since I also have the wordl community project active. The messages are: From the Boinc Home Page: News January 22, 2007 We're still working on internal network/database issues. We're patching and rebooting the upload server now. This is probably why your SETI@home clients are having trouble sending/receiving data. January 15, 2007 We are experiencing a database problem that is leading to erratic work distribution. We will run diagnostics and rebuild the affected tables(s) tomorrow. ![]() |

A Mikey pointed out, there are continuing DB related server problems. I am having problems connecting to send results and collect new WUs, like others. This refers to the U/L and D/L servers being down, possibly for the DB reasons. This is not shown at the normal server status page, accsssible from the SETI Home page. Well have a look here http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html You'll see that "upload/download server" kryten is "Disabled" that's the whole thing. So check back that page in a couple of hours and if it's enabled again hit the update button in you boinc manager... that will solve the issue. ![]() Join BOINC United now! |

Generally what is happening... kryten handles ALL upload and downloads for both Seti and Seti Beta, with as quoted by matt over 2,000,000 results a day that is a lot of storage space and traffic... kryten uses a fiber channel connection to connect to a large bank of drives (an array) to handle the workunits to send and the returned results. Due the Nix (Sun OS or Linux) files system as they are not local drives (meaning hard drive that has a cable plugged into a socket on your motherboard) it uses a network driver (Network File System or NFS) to "mount" (connect) the drive array. Now whenever your computer needs to receive or send completed work, the scheduler is contacted and a upload or download is handed over to kryten to complete the transaction. Basically a process is spawned on kryten to keep track of where you are on the internet and were the files are coming from or going to. So what is happening is that every now and then it loses the NFS connection or the ability to create new connections for returned results... Matt, Eric and crew have isolated some things and currently is most confined to Seti Beta (unless they reboot kryten to fix a connection problem). The Validation problem, after the NFS Mount was lost the scheduler "thought" that it had three files to validate to make the quorum... Because the files were not found due the loss of NFS mount, there was nothing to compare thus all results were declared invalid... That has been fixed. There still remains that "intermittent" loss of NFS mounts and that is primarily because kryten is overworked and very tired... The Forums are slow because klaatu can not handle all the chat in the forums and Google sending the Googlebot through. Thus Matt needs New Servers... Yes I know, Pappa is at it again... Basic Daily Internet Bills and Operations are around $630+/day... So Donations Cash Wise or Hardware wise are needed. So if the replacement server(s) are to meet the current demand and the increased load that MultiBeam and AstroPulse are going to require they will not be cheap. You can read Kevin's Blog it has a bit of information about what is happening in the near future. Regards Pappa I can not report results since I also have the wordl community project active. Still having the same problem, although the servers are up. Can it have anything to do with the world community app I'm also running? |

The version of libcurl used was changed. Transfers started under older versions may have problems finishing. After so many failures the client should be able to actually get through with no user action required. BOINC WIKI ![]() ![]() BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

I've been having a battle on this topic over at BOINC Dev: Error on file upload: socket read incomplete Somebody called 'Nicolas' (I'm told he's a.k.a. PovAddict, RenderFarm@Home's admin) has asserted that David Anderson has stated that the problem was solved from BOINC 5.8.11 onwards. Pepo and I have been reading the development checkin notes, but we can't find David's statement. I won't run 5.8.11, but I've upgraded to 5.8.15 to test. Andy, what version were you running when that WU started/finished/started again? |

I've been having a battle on this topic over at BOINC Dev: Error on file upload: socket read incomplete I'm on 5.8.11, too damned busy to keep up with the latest version. Only went there because I noticed RDCF error in 5.8.3, and along with Bob Guy had hell of a problem getting people to believe it was happening. Andy edit] I just cross posted on to the BOINC board [/edit |

Thanks, Andy - I was just about to post there myself, but you beat me to it! I hear that you're busy, but do you still have the message log from round about the time that WU finished and first attempted to upload? If so, it would be helpful if you could post it, so we can check if the initial problem matches the others. |

Only went there because I noticed RDCF error in 5.8.3, and along with Bob Guy had hell of a problem getting people to believe it was happening. Unfortunately lost the msg log, it's actually sons games machine, I told him to; manually retry sending, Exit/restart Boinc Re-boot computer. He got nowhere with this, so then I went and had a look, saw they -9 overflows anyway, at 4 and 5 secs crunch time, so aborted transfer. I am now waiting for food to finish cooking, might go look again later, if I can move weary bones. Andy |
