Message 498661 - Posted: 6 Jan 2007, 17:40:42 UTC - in response to Message 498236.

Any further details on this situation? The home page is not very helpful.

Did you check the tech news page? They had a corrupted database table, which they rebuilt during last Tuesdays scheduled outage. The Cricket graph looks wonderful now.

Yes I did, thanks. I seem to be having connection problems. I've gone into Advanced > Options > Connections, cleared and reset the default. Nothing is shown in the box however, is this normal? I'd normally just detach from the project and reinstall BOINC after having tried to fix this for several days, but I have about 22 hours worth of results to upload.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Detaching / resetting / reinstalling should be very much a last resort - I've never had to do that in a year of BOINCing.

Assuming you have a working internet connection on that machine - i.e. you're crunching on the same machine that you're using to post your question on this forum - it seems highly unlikely that you need to mess around with the advanced options.

Two possibilities come to mind:

1) Under 'Activity', check that network activity is always available (simple and obvious, but there's no harm in checking!)

2) Do you have a firewall running on the machine? If so, check that BOINC is (still) allowed to connect through it. The settings may have been changed by a security update.

If neither of those throw any light on the problem, try posting some of the BOINC failure messages here for us to look at: it might be a good idea to re-start BOINC first, so we see what it says as its starting up.

[Edit - might also be an idea to tell us what sort of internet connection you use - dialup/DSL/cable, modem/router, that sort of thing.]

Thank You !!!

I've never had a problem with my Trend Micro Internet Security until now. Just as an experiment, I disabled the firewall. (the windows firewall is always off) Instant connection and uploading of results. They must have done an update in the last little bit that for some reason would not allow my comp to connect to BOINC. Thank you for pointing out the obvious to me, I should have thought of that one myself.

Thanks.

Don't mention it - glad to have been able to help.

It just shows the benefit of asking somebody else to take a fresh look at a problem before doing anything too drastic - two pairs of eyes are better than one, and so on.
