wtf???!!! Chuck, if this thread causes you distress, just don't read or post in it. You sound like the people who argue against the Playboy channel on cable, totally ignoring the fact that if you don't pay for it, you can't watch it. Don't get me wrong, I think porn is not good, but my reasons for that position are based on societal and moral grounds. |

wtf???!!! Hm, if you feel uncomfortable with the topic of most of the posts in this thread, I think it would help if you read its title. There is written in bold letters Religious Thread That means, that the entire subject here is about religion, means faith, believe, etc. If you want to read threads of pure science, you may have a look at the Science Forum. In Cafe SETI, you can find a lot of threads just slightly if ever connected to science. But you may wonder: It's not a sign of lacking intelligence to believe in God or to belong to a religion. Kepler, Galilei, Copernicus, Leibniz, Pascal and many others were Christians. People who believed in God, and saw their inventions or discoveries as a proof or as a sign for the existence of God. That their inventions or discoveries did not fit into the views of their CHURCH, that is another problem. Churches are organizations, and can be misuse their power over their members like other organization too. Account frozen... |

wtf???!!! There is a science forum for science topics, but this forum has a wide range of threads, some serious and some not. If you don't want to contribute to this topic then don't, but this thread has over 700 posts and it looks like this is the ninth time it's been started, so there are a few people who disagree with you. By the way, someone thought I was you. I am sorry to lay that insult on you. Go with God. |

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack... ;) Jeffrey, didn't you say you missed this guy? Or were you being sarcastic? It's hard to tell sometimes on the internet if someone is being serious or not, but he doesn't seem to like your positions/posts very much. |

wtf???!!! Yes, chuck. I read that years ago. It's a good piece of layman's common sense epistemology. And? Look. I'm afraid you have to accept the fact that you're surrounded by people that disagree with you and your 'science'. And don't forget, you've got a nice big fat chunk of conceptual irrationalism in your psyche, chuck. Good old fashioned new age enviornmentalism and altruism . Don't be surprised when people are dissuaded from your points of view when the implications of your ideas are essentially self sacrifice and misery for your fellow man...as a prescription no less. Jeffrey, didn't you say you missed this guy? People who preach that you don't need God to live a moral life while exhibiting extreme amoral behavior can be quite entertaining... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Jeffrey, didn't you say you missed this guy? I had to look for the post, but it had this same emoticon " ;) " which I have learned means sarcasm, I think. I guess I missed it before. |

Jeffrey, didn't you say you missed this guy? In the interest of equal time, and aside from the religious issues, all are capable of amoral behavior. The only example from the person you refer to is, as Es put it, bloody-mindedness ... making the same point over and over, being rude to people who disagree with him on ONE issue, and rarely conceding a point. (Only the one in bold comes anywhere close to amorality.) He has also provided examples that, if true, do indicate guidance from some moral compass. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

"The Goal of Science is understanding lawful relations among natural phenomena. Religion is a way of life within a larger framework of meaning." (Ian Barbour, "Religion and Science," pg. 204) LETS BEGIN IN 2010 |

Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.... We need each other to be what we must be, what we are called to be." (-Pope John Paul II) LETS BEGIN IN 2010 |

"The Goal of Science is understanding lawful relations among natural phenomena. Saw that in the other thread. Careful, when I do posts like that, repeating in a few threads, people get up in arms and mods delete all or all but one of the posts. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Jeffrey, didn't you say you missed this guy? Sarge, perhaps if you rethought this entire post of yours, checked your definitions, reexamined your concepts and reposted it it would make sense. 'amoral'? Probably here you mean 'immoral'. Once you read through it I think you'll easily detect its flaws. I won't rewrite it for you of course. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity!
