When any work unit is 'Ready to Run', right-clicking the unit displays a disabled (greyed-out) 'Show Graphics' option. Obviously when a unit is Running, this option is available. Now, in V4.05, when a unit is 'Preempted', the Show Graphics option is available, but does nothing - then.... ...But, when the unit is scheduled and starts running, it remembers that Show Graphics had been clicked and resumes the Preempted work with graphics showing. There's no way of knowing until a Preempted unit is scheduled if the graphics will be on or off :-( Not sure if this can be described as a bug, or if it's intended behavior. Either way, most 'power-crunchers' don't want to waste CPU cycles on graphics stuff. With several/many PCs BOINCing, most don't have screens/keyboards/mice attached to the PCs.... It's just a tad disappointing to find that graphics stuff has been running unexpectedly for the last few days or weeks in the case of Climate. Mike |

You might like this - you might not...:-) If you set 'Leave apps in memory while prempted' to YES then the graphics do work immediately. I'd suggest you do this anyway, since the pre-emption mechanism doesn't take account of checkpoints, so if the app is not left in memory it will quit and restart from the last checkpoint. Depending on when the checkpoint and pre-emption occur and the speed of your PC you could lose a significant amount of work. Giskard - the first telepathic robot. |

Ok, so maybe I don't like it ;-) As it happens, I read the bit about keeping the project in memory earlier today and set my options just so. That explains why I didn't notice this a tad earlier.... It would still be nice if the 'Show Graphics' option could show the selected status with a tick or similar. Better still, disable the option while the unit is Preempted. |
