Tommy: Acid Queen

Yes, this scene in the movie is weird, and it's a long download, almost 9 minutes, but it goes well to the movie's psychedelic feeling, and Tina Turner is great as the Acid Queen.

That was excellent! Almost reminded me of the good ol' days. Tina was fantastic.

One of the greatest rock opera's is Tommy by The Who.

It was made as a movie directed by Ken Russel and produced by Ken Russel and Robert Stigwood.

The trailer to the movie: Tommy

And to round this little Tommy cavalcade off, which actually made me download the cd, so I have listened to it the past couple of days, I've found this bootleg from a concert, where The Who are performing the ending song from Tommy, We're Not Gonna Take It.

We're Not Gonna Take It

Tommy had become a cultleader, and his minions are rebelling, leaving him back, deaf, dumb, and blind, as he was before, lost in his own world inside the mirror.

Tommy: Welcome to the Camp,
I guess you all know why we're here.
My name is Tommy
and I became aware this year

If you want to follow me,
you've got to play pinball.
And put in your earplugs
put on your eyeshades
you know where to put the cork

Hey you getting drunk, so sorry!
I've got you sussed.
Hey you smoking Mother Nature!
This is a bust!
Hey hung up old Mr. Normal,
Don't try to gain my trust!
'Cause you ain't gonna follow me any of those ways
Although you think you must

Guests:
[whispering]
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
[/whispering]

We're not gonna take it
Never did and never will
We're not gonna take it
Gonna break it, gonna shake it,
let's forget it better still

Tommy: Now you can't hear me,
your ears are truly sealed.
You can't speak either,
your mouth is filled.
You can't see nothing,
and pinball completes the scene.
Here comes Uncle Ernie to guide you to
Your very own machine.

Guests:
[shouting]
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
[/shouting]

We're not gonna take it
Never did and never will
Don't want no religion
And as far as we can tell
We ain't gonna take you
Never did and never will
We're not gonna take you
We forsake you
Gonna rape you
Let's forget you better still.

Tommy:
See me.
Feel me.
Touch me.
Heal me.

Listening to you,
I get the music.
Gazing at you,
I get the heat.
Following you,
I climb the mountains.
I get excitement at your feet.

Right behind you,
I see the millions.
On you,
I see the glory.
From you,
I get opinions.
From you,
I get the story.

One of my alltime favorites from the 80' is Depeche Mode's album Music for the Masses, which was mixed at Puk Studios in Denmark.

The video for "Never Let Me Down Again" was shot in Denmark. There's a Danish license plate on the little car, and I think, based on the landscape, it's shot in the middle part of Jutland, not far from the Puk Studios.

Another topsong from Depeche Mode is Personal Jesus, one of their singles.

The Anton Corbijn-directed music video for "Personal Jesus" is his first Depeche Mode video in color, and features the band in a ranch. MTV edited out some suggestive mouth movements of Martin Gore during the bridge and replaced it with some other footage from the video.

The video is not one of my favorites though, I find it rather flat. I guess the band wanted a holiday in Mexico?

Personal Jesus has been covered several times, among others Marilyn Manson, who's video I can't/won't show here as it's too explicit for this forum. Another cover version is by Johnny Cash, who gave a memorable on his album American IV - The Man Comes Around.

The video is not originally made by Johnny Cash, it's a video created with the song as a musical background. The video can seem opinionated, depending on what your own opinion is about religion and politics. But please focus on the song.

The album The Man Comes Around also has the song, Johnny Cash made his last video for. The cover version of the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt is breathtaking, and the video is heartbreaking. It gives a new meaning to the lyrics, letting Johnny look back on his life with it's ups and downs, using the words in the lyrics as his own.

Enjoy the video and see it as the final period to an extraordinary person and an extraordinary career.

Johnny Cash: Hurt

Even Trent said he cried when he saw it:

Nine Inch Nails CMT Johnny Cash HURT tribute

The end of the road. Johnny Cash, rest in peace.

Well now, Esme'. That IS pretty offbeat, but enjoyable. Then again, I like Eraserhead. What does that tell you?

The first video I saw with Linkin Park was In The End, their third single, which became a huge hit.

The video for the song was directed by Nathan "Karma" Cox and Hahn, and featured the band playing atop a massive statue in the rain. The video had a massive amount of CGI compared to most music videos at the time.
