And I don't need my kid to see the F word here either :)

So I take it that you'll never let you're kid explore a dictionary containing slang terms either.

...It's what I was trying to say in one my previous posts. You have the right to decide what your kids should or shouldn't see.

. . . a simple Note: my (x) wife, gave me a coffee mug - she said iT was "for some of your 'friends' - give them their coffee in this mug". Well, on the cup was a little statement . . .

Any Man thaT calls a Women 'babe', 'chick' or 'honey' - should have their tiny little peckers cut off

i thoughT of thaT gift as being a really good measure - as to 'how she felt 'bout certain said matters' - and - to me - the Message was rather 'clear' . . . and as an added Note: ThatT's how she felt and I RespecT Her for thaT.

I'll tell you what feels like censorship to me, is that I'm scared to put my opinion here in case I get called names, accused of something I haven't done and sent threatening emails.

Do I sound bitter? Yes I'm bitter. Am I pissed off that the perpetrators got no consequences for what they did? Yes I am.

I also think the behaviour of the supporters of the BOTD thread says it all.

Support them if you will, support their right to 'free speech', because god help you if you don't agree with them.

There are many ways of enforcing censorship. You can delete the post..or you can attack the poster so much that they either leave or learn to keep their mouth shut.

Hi Es.

I may have come accross as a supporter of the BOTD thread somewhat, but that's not what I intended. Knightmare mentioned the thread and said he had no problems with it, but that the admins saw it differently. My view was that simply having a thread that named female BOINC members as "babe" shouldn't alone be a reason to censor it. I was trying to be fair because I was making a general point about censorship.

If it's gotten to where men continuously make remarks about women to the point that women members here start feeling uncomfortable, than it's different. Since women here have a right to be treated equally on these message boards, I think that would go beyond what should be accepted as free speech, because it creates a hostile atmosphere for women participants.

But, I haven't checked out the thread for a long time.

Then she chose her husband well, Richard.

Don't get me wrong, but all that this story does is that it confirms that you've deferred to her values on this issue. Not that there's anything wrong with that; in fact, in the marital context, it's hard to see how you'd have peace in the house if you didn't.

But contrast your story with this possible one:

I was in a gift store and found this coffee mug. It said "Any Man thaT calls a Women 'babe', 'chick' or 'honey' - should have their tiny little peckers cut off". I roared out loud with laughter because it reminded me of all the uncouth workers I hear in the lunchroom at the factory. I bought one for my wife. She was delighted and roared with laughter too. We both think my co-workers at the factory are ignorant dolts following antedeluvian sexual attitudes.

Do you see the difference? In the first story you told, you defer to another on certain values. In the second, you both share those values.

And that's why(with no offense intended at all), I say that your story does not add any further argument in support of that position in the debate.

Richard, I'm sorry that I offended you. That truly, really, honestly, was not my intention.

My sincere appologies to you Richard. I'm not sure what word I should have used to make the point, but clearly I used a wrong one.

No offence to you was intended. Please forgive.
