The BOINC developers are looking for info on the following, if you have problems with any BOINC 5.x.x:
1. You cannot connect to a project after attaching correctly. You cannot download/upload or report results without running into errors 400, 403 and 500. Exclusions to this are when the project is down, has a maintenance outage or you have problems with your network/internet.
The only other exclusion is when you are using a corporate firewall which needs NTLM authentication.

2. You run into the "Unrecognized HTTP content - encoding" error in BOINC Manager.

3. You are using BOINC 5.4.11 but still have problems with getting through the firewall.

Please post your results in this thread on the BOINC forums. You can create an account on those forums through this link.

Hello <noname>!

Please try this: Go to your account, click on "other account info" and enter your nickname (or anything you want) in the field labeled "Name" (do not leave it empty!). Then hit the "Update Info" button at the bottom. This should fix your problem.

Open BOINC Manager, projects tabs, select Seti@Home and hit the "Update" button. See if it works now.

Regards
Andy

**EDIT** Or, in case you're not attached to Seti, reattach. **EDIT**

Hello RaZoR,

the Account manager is for third party account managers like BAM. SETI@home doesn't have it's own Account manager.

To attach to SETI@Home, use the "attach to project" function (in the tools menu) and when you are asked for the project URL, enter
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
Follow the steps according the messages shown on your screen.

Happy crunchin'!

Andy

Message 426194 - Posted: 25 Sep 2006, 15:20:36 UTC

Periodically when BOINC operation is suspend on my laptop I het the "zero length file" error message. I have included a log file section that shows this happening twice after activity was suspended - once for a CPU benchmark test and once when I removed the laptop from its docking station and it was running on batteries. It does not always happen as you can see an entry in the log for going on batteries when the error did not occur.

Also, I get the "zero length file" error when Suspending or Hibernating my laptop so I have gotten in to the habbit of exiting the application before doing either of these operations. Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem?

Message 426196 - Posted: 25 Sep 2006, 15:29:23 UTC - in response to Message 426194.

Also, I get the "zero length file" error when Suspending or Hibernating my laptop so I have gotten in to the habbit of exiting the application before doing either of these operations. Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem?

BOINC will still try to write to disk when you hibernate your Windows. So if you don't want to have these errors, make sure you SUSPEND Boinc before you go into hibernation or suspending your laptop.

Boinc Manager, Activity menu, Suspend.
When back from hibernation, just return it to run based on preferences.

I'll check out the BOINC Wiki but would prefer not to have to do anything for a specific application when Suspending or Hibernating. I guess I don't understand the requirement for progam action during a Suspend or Hibernate operation. I currently do not touch my Office, Email or Web application windows.

I took the advice of suspending the BOINC manually prior to hibernating or suspending the computer and still get the "zero length file" error. You will notice in the included log file segment that the error is intermittent and does not always occur when the laptop goes on batteries

Don't worry about it.
Unless it does it several times on a given work unit when there are no other messgages in the log (ie the CPU hasn't gone from processing the WU to doing something else) it's not a problem.

Strangely the errors have stopped showing up when undocking the laptop or exiting the application. I have not seen one for a week now.

I have been running Seti@Home for many years, but recently Seti ruined my daily work and messes up my machine. A gigantic error have occured. I fund the error - it is called BOINC.

Seti should never have ruined its good relationship with us by letting lesser intelligent life take over.

Seti would have quit a long long time ago if it weren't for BOINC. Science projects run very badly upon no money at all, you know? The original grant that Seti had was for 2 years. They ran on it for 6 years and then the money was gone.

But here, go read all about that in Why Seti Classic closed and other facts of life.

I have been running Seti@Home for many years, but recently Seti ruined my daily work and messes up my machine. A gigantic error have occured. I fund the error - it is called BOINC.

Seti should never have ruined its good relationship with us by letting lesser intelligent life take over.

The same team that brought you SETI@Home Classic is the team that created BOINC, so I don't understand 'lesser intelligent life'.

I also see that you never really asked for help in your whole two posts on these message boards. You have simply complained that you cannot get BOINC to work and continuously lambasted BOINC for being such a 'stupid programme', without actually seeking help.

SETI@Home Classic ran out of funding and is gone. Without BOINC, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence would surely not continue.

Do you want to receive help or do you want to complain about BOINC even though it's never going away?

[Edit] Ageless, you beat me too it again! ;) [/Edit]

Hi everybody!

I'm using BOINC 5.4.11 behind a proxy on port 80. I configured the proxy-settings in BOINC and then the program was able to download work units. But it is not able to upload them to the servers.

Then I installed a network sniffer and of the packages my proxy sent back to me contained the following (several parts are in German):

HTTP/1.0 407 Proxy Authentication Required
Server: squid/2.5.STABLE13
Mime-Version: 1.0
Date: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 08:57:54 GMT
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 1109
Expires: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 08:57:54 GMT
X-Squid-Error: ERR_CACHE_ACCESS_DENIED 0
Proxy-Authenticate: NTLM
Proxy-Authenticate: Basic realm="Proxy Authentisierung"
X-Cache: MISS from proxy.server.at
Proxy-Connection: close

von diesem Cache zu beziehen, bis Sie sich authentifiziert haben.

It seems to me as if BOINC doesn't use the authentication settings I specified at the proxy settings in BOINC for UPLOADING.

Is that possible or am I wrong?
