The BOINC developers are looking for info on the following, if you have problems with any BOINC 5.x.x: 1. You cannot connect to a project after attaching correctly. You cannot download/upload or report results without running into errors 400, 403 and 500. Exclusions to this are when the project is down, has a maintenance outage or you have problems with your network/internet. The only other exclusion is when you are using a corporate firewall which needs NTLM authentication. 2. You run into the "Unrecognized HTTP content - encoding" error in BOINC Manager. 3. You are using BOINC 5.4.11 but still have problems with getting through the firewall. Please post your results in this thread on the BOINC forums. You can create an account on those forums through this link. |

19/09/2006 12:45:20 PM|SETI@home|Resetting project Hello <noname>! Please try this: Go to your account, click on "other account info" and enter your nickname (or anything you want) in the field labeled "Name" (do not leave it empty!). Then hit the "Update Info" button at the bottom. This should fix your problem. Open BOINC Manager, projects tabs, select Seti@Home and hit the "Update" button. See if it works now. Regards Andy **EDIT** Or, in case you're not attached to Seti, reattach. **EDIT** |

Account manager not work ( Hello RaZoR, the Account manager is for third party account managers like BAM. SETI@home doesn't have it's own Account manager. To attach to SETI@Home, use the "attach to project" function (in the tools menu) and when you are asked for the project URL, enter http://setiathome.berkeley.edu Follow the steps according the messages shown on your screen. Happy crunchin'! Regards Andy |

Periodically when BOINC operation is suspend on my laptop I het the "zero length file" error message. I have included a log file section that shows this happening twice after activity was suspended - once for a CPU benchmark test and once when I removed the laptop from its docking station and it was running on batteries. It does not always happen as you can see an entry in the log for going on batteries when the error did not occur. Also, I get the "zero length file" error when Suspending or Hibernating my laptop so I have gotten in to the habbit of exiting the application before doing either of these operations. Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem? 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for windows_intelx86 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||libcurl/7.15.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8a zlib/1.2.3 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Genuine Intel(R) CPU U1400 @ 1.20GHz 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Memory: 1015.36 MB physical, 2.38 GB virtual 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Disk: 55.88 GB total, 41.50 GB free 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 2634801; location: work; project prefs: default 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-12-01 15:41:43) 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||General prefs: no separate prefs for work; using your defaults 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Local control only allowed 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM||Listening on port 31416 9/21/2006 6:26:51 AM|SETI@home|Resuming task 11oc99aa.16252.8898.573572.3.169_3 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/21/2006 7:21:57 AM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 9/21/2006 7:21:57 AM|SETI@home|Computation for task 11oc99aa.16252.8898.573572.3.169_3 finished 9/21/2006 7:21:57 AM|SETI@home|Starting task 10jn02aa.10782.24865.611090.3.124_7 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/21/2006 7:22:00 AM|SETI@home|Started upload of file 11oc99aa.16252.8898.573572.3.169_3_0 9/21/2006 7:22:02 AM|SETI@home|Unrecoverable error for result 10jn02aa.10782.24865.611090.3.124_7 ( - Also, I get the "zero length file" error when Suspending or Hibernating my laptop so I have gotten in to the habbit of exiting the application before doing either of these operations. Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem? BOINC will still try to write to disk when you hibernate your Windows. So if you don't want to have these errors, make sure you SUSPEND Boinc before you go into hibernation or suspending your laptop. Boinc Manager, Activity menu, Suspend. When back from hibernation, just return it to run based on preferences. |

Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem? I'll check out the BOINC Wiki but would prefer not to have to do anything for a specific application when Suspending or Hibernating. I guess I don't understand the requirement for progam action during a Suspend or Hibernate operation. I currently do not touch my Office, Email or Web application windows. |

Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem? I took the advice of suspending the BOINC manually prior to hibernating or suspending the computer and still get the "zero length file" error. You will notice in the included log file segment that the error is intermittent and does not always occur when the laptop goes on batteries 9/26/2006 4:18:31 PM||Suspending network activity - user request 9/26/2006 8:05:20 PM|SETI@home|Task 22jl02aa.5448.28129.142324.3.138_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 9/26/2006 8:05:20 PM|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 9/26/2006 8:05:20 PM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 9/27/2006 6:15:33 AM||Resuming computation 9/27/2006 6:15:33 AM||Rescheduling CPU: Resuming computation 9/27/2006 6:15:33 AM||Resuming network activity 9/27/2006 6:15:33 AM|SETI@home|Restarting task 22jl02aa.5448.28129.142324.3.138_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/27/2006 6:50:41 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 9/27/2006 6:50:41 AM|SETI@home|Reason: To fetch work 9/27/2006 6:50:41 AM|SETI@home|Requesting 2 seconds of new work 9/27/2006 6:50:46 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded 9/27/2006 6:50:49 AM|SETI@home|Started download of file 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36 9/27/2006 6:50:51 AM|SETI@home|Finished download of file 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36 9/27/2006 6:50:51 AM|SETI@home|Throughput 341271 bytes/sec 9/27/2006 6:50:52 AM||Rescheduling CPU: files downloaded 9/27/2006 8:25:19 AM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 9/27/2006 8:25:19 AM|SETI@home|Computation for task 22jl02aa.5448.28129.142324.3.138_1 finished 9/27/2006 8:25:19 AM|SETI@home|Starting task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/27/2006 8:25:21 AM|SETI@home|Started upload of file 22jl02aa.5448.28129.142324.3.138_1_0 9/27/2006 8:25:23 AM|SETI@home|Finished upload of file 22jl02aa.5448.28129.142324.3.138_1_0 9/27/2006 8:25:23 AM|SETI@home|Throughput 49414 bytes/sec 9/27/2006 9:08:59 AM||Suspending computation - on batteries 9/27/2006 9:08:59 AM|SETI@home|Pausing task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 (left in memory) 9/27/2006 9:08:59 AM||Suspending network activity - on batteries 9/27/2006 9:35:08 AM||Resuming computation 9/27/2006 9:35:08 AM||Rescheduling CPU: Resuming computation 9/27/2006 9:35:08 AM||Resuming network activity 9/27/2006 9:35:08 AM|SETI@home|Resuming task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/27/2006 10:49:26 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 9/27/2006 10:49:26 AM|SETI@home|Reason: To report completed tasks 9/27/2006 10:49:26 AM|SETI@home|Reporting 1 tasks 9/27/2006 10:49:31 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded 9/27/2006 11:11:07 AM||Suspending computation - user request 9/27/2006 11:11:07 AM|SETI@home|Pausing task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 (left in memory) 9/27/2006 11:11:07 AM||Suspending network activity - user request 9/28/2006 6:11:16 AM|SETI@home|Task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 9/28/2006 6:11:16 AM|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 9/28/2006 6:11:16 AM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 9/28/2006 6:14:04 AM||Resuming computation 9/28/2006 6:14:04 AM||Rescheduling CPU: Resuming computation 9/28/2006 6:14:04 AM||Resuming network activity 9/28/2006 6:14:04 AM|SETI@home|Restarting task 27ap03aa.18485.23826.542316.3.36_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 |

Also, I get the "zero length file" error when Suspending or Hibernating my laptop so I have gotten in to the habbit of exiting the application before doing either of these operations. Is the a potential fix for this or an explaination of how to avoid the problem? Now it seems to be generating the "no finished file" or "Zero length" file error all by itself when exiting using the File/Exit option and when it suspends to run CPU benchmarks - any suggestions? 9/29/2006 3:27:18 PM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 9/29/2006 3:27:18 PM|SETI@home|Computation for task 28ap03aa.13742.594.611090.3.17_0 finished 9/29/2006 3:27:18 PM|SETI@home|Starting task 27se00aa.12354.11138.504824.3.255_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 9/29/2006 3:27:21 PM|SETI@home|Started upload of file 28ap03aa.13742.594.611090.3.17_0_0 9/29/2006 3:27:26 PM|SETI@home|Finished upload of file 28ap03aa.13742.594.611090.3.17_0_0 9/29/2006 3:27:26 PM|SETI@home|Throughput 35598 bytes/sec 9/29/2006 4:33:45 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 9/29/2006 4:33:45 PM|SETI@home|Reason: Requested by user 9/29/2006 4:33:45 PM|SETI@home|Reporting 1 tasks 9/29/2006 4:33:50 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded 10/2/2006 6:28:34 AM||Suspending computation - running CPU benchmarks 10/2/2006 6:28:34 AM|SETI@home|Pausing task 27se00aa.12354.11138.504824.3.255_2 (left in memory) 10/2/2006 6:28:34 AM||Suspending network activity - running CPU benchmarks 10/2/2006 6:28:40 AM||Running CPU benchmarks 10/2/2006 6:28:40 AM|SETI@home|Task 27se00aa.12354.11138.504824.3.255_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 10/2/2006 6:28:40 AM|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 10/2/2006 6:28:40 AM||Rescheduling CPU: application exited 10/2/2006 6:29:36 AM||Benchmark results: 10/2/2006 6:29:36 AM|| Number of CPUs: 1 10/2/2006 6:29:36 AM|| 915 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 10/2/2006 6:29:36 AM|| 2070 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 10/2/2006 6:29:36 AM||Finished CPU benchmarks 10/2/2006 6:29:38 AM||Resuming computation 10/2/2006 6:29:38 AM||Rescheduling CPU: Resuming computation 10/2/2006 6:29:38 AM||Resuming network activity 10/2/2006 6:29:39 AM|SETI@home|Restarting task 27se00aa.12354.11138.504824.3.255_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 |

Now it seems to be generating the "no finished file" or "Zero length" file error all by itself when exiting using the File/Exit option and when it suspends to run CPU benchmarks - any suggestions? Don't worry about it. Unless it does it several times on a given work unit when there are no other messgages in the log (ie the CPU hasn't gone from processing the WU to doing something else) it's not a problem. Strangely the errors have stopped showing up when undocking the laptop or exiting the application. I have not seen one for a week now. |

I have been running Seti@Home for many years, but recently Seti ruined my daily work and messes up my machine. A gigantic error have occured. I fund the error - it is called BOINC. Seti should never have ruined its good relationship with us by letting lesser intelligent life take over. |

Seti would have quit a long long time ago if it weren't for BOINC. Science projects run very badly upon no money at all, you know? The original grant that Seti had was for 2 years. They ran on it for 6 years and then the money was gone. But here, go read all about that in Why Seti Classic closed and other facts of life. |

The same team that brought you SETI@Home Classic is the team that created BOINC, so I don't understand 'lesser intelligent life'. I also see that you never really asked for help in your whole two posts on these message boards. You have simply complained that you cannot get BOINC to work and continuously lambasted BOINC for being such a 'stupid programme', without actually seeking help. SETI@Home Classic ran out of funding and is gone. Without BOINC, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence would surely not continue. Do you want to receive help or do you want to complain about BOINC even though it's never going away? [Edit] Ageless, you beat me too it again! ;) [/Edit] |

Hi everybody! I'm using BOINC 5.4.11 behind a proxy on port 80. I configured the proxy-settings in BOINC and then the program was able to download work units. But it is not able to upload them to the servers. Then I installed a network sniffer and of the packages my proxy sent back to me contained the following (several parts are in German): HTTP/1.0 407 Proxy Authentication Required Server: squid/2.5.STABLE13 Mime-Version: 1.0 Date: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 08:57:54 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 1109 Expires: Fri, 20 Oct 2006 08:57:54 GMT X-Squid-Error: ERR_CACHE_ACCESS_DENIED 0 Proxy-Authenticate: NTLM Proxy-Authenticate: Basic realm="Proxy Authentisierung" X-Cache: MISS from proxy.server.at Proxy-Connection: close <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <HTML><HEAD><META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <TITLE>FEHLER: Cache-Zugriff Verweigert</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <H1>FEHLER</H1> <H2>Cache-Zugriff Verweigert</H2> <HR noshade size="1px"> <P> Während des Versuches, den URL<BR> <A HREF="http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler">http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler</A><BR> zu laden, trat der folgende Fehler auf: <UL> <LI> <STRONG>Cache-Zugriff verweigert</STRONG> </P> </UL> <P>Leider sind Sie zur Zeit nicht berechtigt <PRE> http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler</PRE> von diesem Cache zu beziehen, bis Sie sich authentifiziert haben. </P> It seems to me as if BOINC doesn't use the authentication settings I specified at the proxy settings in BOINC for UPLOADING. Is that possible or am I wrong? |
