BOINC Manager's Projects tab: I would like to see either the account Key displayed and/or the email address assigned to that project.

I have 3 SETI accounts, one of which I lost the account key to, so I cant change any account information. Having something little extra in the Manager program would be helpful.

To get your account key use this form the link to it is on the log in page 'Log in with account key'.

BTW why 3 accounts? You can put as many computer as you want on one account.

Displaying the account key and email address in the BOINC manager would give anyone who has access to a computer access to that information. This would not be a good idea.

Yeah, I know ... Im trying to work on that.
thread

2 were classic SETI accounts that were converted. The 3rd account was created right around the time SETI moved to BOINC, but (I think) before my accounts were converted. My memory of it is a little rusty.

That's true. But there's no real vital information stored on the servers.

Personally, I think the risk is low; Computer security is something Im very
familiar with.

I solved these problems in three ways. First I created a special Yahoo account for use only with all Boinc projects. Second, I keep copies of the registration e-mail. Third, I use roboform to keep my password, email and log in info, they have a free version.

I am not talking about information stored on the servers. I am refering to anyone with physical access to the computer having the ability to manage the account. This would not be good for people who have BOINC installed on office computers for example.

Same here for your first 2 steps. But think I procmail deleted the 1 account information before I added a rule to save those.

Which is EXACTLY where I have it installed.

The BOINC Manager client software doesnt do much. What's an evil person to do?
Suspend my jobs?

The Manager accesses the server. And on the server, there's not much a malicious user can do there. Changed my password? I own the original account key ... let me reset.

If my office computer were unlocked Id be more worry about the local files than the BOINC software.

I still think my orginial post is a good idea.

Oh! Id like to add 1 more item: Which preference Im using (work, home, school).

I looked at the Messages tab, but there's SO much information that I often overlook which preference it said it was using. Easier reading or redundant reading would be good.

Try using BoincView instead of Boinc Manager.

The preference you're using is found directly under Your Account, then either view any preferences or your computers.

What could someone malicious do with your account key? Change again everything you just (re)set (preferences, email address, password) as soon as you changed them. Unless you don't mind playing an hourly to daily game of "change my settings"...

It's why I delete posts around here of people posting their account key.
The GUI is going to change though. At present it's being looked into how it can be made simpler, for the novice user. A mockup of the new GUI can be found here (PDF file).

Yet there's still much to change.

Now, another thing. The Wish list here is for Seti specific wishes.
Seti is not equal to BOINC. So BOINC isn't Seti. ;)

There are BOINC forums, but they are hardly read by the BOINC developers.
So if you want to make an impact, try emailing the BOINC developers email list. It needs registration.
