The website appears slow or unresponsive and it takes a long time to upload or download my workunits.
What am I doing wrong?

There are currently issues that can cause some delay and can make browsing a bit more difficult than usual.
Sometimes you will get an error saying
"Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Too many connections in /disks/koloth/a/inet_services/boinc_www_https/share/projects/sah/html/inc/db.inc on line 16
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1040Too many connections"

If this happens, just wait 10 sec and try again.

Your finished workunits will simply be queued up and uploaded as soon as the server is once again able to handle your data.
Please do no try to force any uploads or downloads as this will simply generate more load on the server.

Sorry about the inconvenience.

Is it possible to auto-split threads at lets say 100 postings.

Some postings in the "cafe SETI" like this run wild with no end in site.

see "Cafe seti -> The Last person to post here wins!!!" 600 mails/4000 views and counting.

IMO this is a total waist of bandwidth.

Go to your forum preferences and set the "If a thread contains more than this number of posts" and "only display the first one and this many of the last ones" amounts.

Yes but.. it will not ease the load from 4000+ users downloading 600+ mails, and this is why I asked.

All they load is cleartext. But the 4000 and counting isn't the amount of people getting the thread, it's just a view counter, aka showing how many times people have looked at it. I'm sure most of those in there have the setting set, even 'newbies' have it set automatically.

Then again, I haven't been in it yet. Not going to either. Waste of space and time. ;)

Plus the connection seems to be back up to around 50Mbit. Not the 2Mbit it was hovering around earlier.

Nicknames wil not help the server.

I rest my case.

The problems wasn't caused by that thread but by a congestion in the database. Theoretically the software should be able to handle threads of any lenght (your browser is the limit...) but I think that the mentioned thread is pure waste of storage resources...

Say wha?

Sorry, these message boards stink and the website stinks and BOINC stinks. As far as I can tell, the system (at Berkeley is working) and my computer is working with a DSL always on connection which is working and I'm spending hours with no new downloaded work though apparently it assigned a unit.
