I can't remember my password for my old e-mail account which I registered over 5 years ago. The e-mail account is vanthba@datastar.net. My new e-mail is vanthba@yahoo.com. Who can I talk to so I don't loose my 54,000 work units.

If you still have Seti Classic on your host, open the user_info.sah file you can find under the Seti@Home folder with any word editor (select to open any type of file), like NotePad, WordPad or Word.

Select the full text, use Ctrl-C, go to the special form to recover your password, left click with the mouse inside the empty field and use Ctrl-V.

This should have paste now the content of the user_info.sah file inside that field.

Hit the "submit" button. Your password and e-mail address of Seti Classic should then appear at the upper left part of that webpage.

Now go here, fill in your recovered e-mail address of Classic in the upper part
and in the lower part "... or if you've already created a SETI@home/BOINC account and want to link it to your SETI@home Classic account:" fill in

the Email address of your existing SETI@home/BOINC account
the Account key of your SETI@home/BOINC account
and your recovered SETI@home Classic password

and use the "link to existing account" button.

What if you do not remember your old email address or password? Do they still keep your name and other information?

If you do not have access to your password, email address, or a functioning client, then you are completely out of luck, you need at least one of these. From the functioning client you can retrieve the password which is sufficient.

Did you delete the old information? Maybe it's possible to get the info from your old provider, server, program, etc?

Sorry about the double post.

How do I go about finding my activation code for BIONIC. I'm trying to link my classic account, which I couldn't have done without this forum. Thanks.

THe activation code for Boinc is the same "key" that you used to attach to seti/boinc and to login to this account to be able to post your message.

Do you mean your old classic password?

Nah. I've got my password. It says I need my account key of my SETI/BIONIC account. I was never sent one, though. I didn't need a key to post messages

or if you've already created a SETI@home/BOINC account and want to link it to your SETI@home Classic account:

Email address of existing SETI@home/BOINC account
Account key of your SETI@home/BOINC account <-----------
SETI@home Classic password

you had to log in with the key to be able to post here, it was probably saved as a cookie, but this isn't the point.

Click here and look at the middle and locate the "click here" link in the sentence "If you don't know your account key, click here" and well click there, seti will send you an email with the key in it.

Email address of existing SETI@home/BOINC account
Account key of your SETI@home/BOINC account <-----------
SETI@home Classic password

The account key of a current used BOINC account is to find in the BOINC folder. There is a file account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml. In the tag authenticator you can find the account key.

Seems there is a problem with the email in Berkeley. Possible they have changed to much with the servers.

Here's the userinfo.sah file as opened in notepad for my old account.

NOTE: this account has NO wus in it as I've already had them transferred.

Are you saying yours is missing info? did you actually attach to classic and get atleast ONE wu?

tony

Well OK it has the three I just did while trying to extract my password, but I changed some of the numbers.

If the email account is still the same from when that person registered with classic, just go the SETI Classic Account login page, and click where it says 'don't remember your password' and enter the old email. But perhaps it's possible to temporarily re-establish the old email account to do this as well. If the password of the email account itself has been forgotten, then contact the email service administrator.

[edit] I've noticed that the user_info.sah file that has my email address is only in the user_info.sah file that's within the temp123 file.

Its not, when i first got into SETI back in 99 i used a (free at the time) netzero addy, wich lapsed years ago. In wich I have forgotten the password.

I looked in the file mentioned, the email addy and password section of the file were blank, just as i posted them below.

I am assuming i will have to find my original HD from 99 and hope that the password will still be stored on it.
