I'll donate my SETI crunching for one whole week to the person who gives me a GMail invite.

Thanx,

With SETI classic that was a pretty easy thing to do. However, with SETI BOINC it would require someone to give you their account ID which would give you total access to their account. I really don't see anyone willing to do that. It would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

Thanx for pointing out another flaw with BOINC.

Im _more_ than happy to give them SETI time with SETI 'classic', which is what Im using anyway.

BTW, This was a friendly offer, I don't contain malicious thought like my brother Bill here.

If anyone have an invite, please e-mail me on: boincforum[at]antwelm.com

Thanx?

I would not call my thoughts malicious. I am just not naive enough to think everyone out there is honest and friendly. It's a sad state of affairs but that's the way it is.

So, this also means you would not let any computer compute for BOINC, except for the one you were the sole (and protected) user of?

And hey, thanx for pointing out the possibility of me being not honest and friendly.

Umm, isn't SETI about the science, and not creating some sort of black market economy for trading computing time?

This isn't a problem with BOINC, it's a feature. Why would anybody even want to have somebody else crunch for them in this way? Do you get a prize if you work on the most units?

If you want an invite, Antwelm, buy one on eBay. Don't muddy a scientific project with your side transactions.

Ok, I gave Antwelm one of my gmail invites. Not because he offered to crunch for me, but because I have them, and I know some people are having trouble getting them. I have 2 more. If anyone wants them, tell me.

@huns0004: I offered it to him without the crunching. I honestly don't care if he does it or not. How is this a black market situation? If he didn't say he wanted a gmail account, how could I have given it to him? I gave him my old SETI account. Why? Because I'd sorta like it to get to 2500 before it gets shut down. Does it matter? No, will it change the world? no. Would those WUs be crunched anyway? yes. Therefore I ask of you, who cares.

You may be doing it solely for the science, and I commend you on that, but me, I'm in it partly for the science, partly for the competition (which is a silly competition, but who cares) and partly cause it's FUN.

*eberndl: Thank you so much - Towards 2500 Together ! :)

*Toby: Are you suggesting that this lovely girl has a need for an e-penis? ;) Thanx for putting me on the GMail idea in the first place, and now, a reason to crunch SETI classic for a bit more :) PS: _If_ I had money, I wouldn't spend it on an e-mail account, nor on eBay..

*@huns0004: Even though I was sincere in my offer, it was ment for fun. I brought with me the soul of www.gmailswap.com. The units will still be crunched (Whola Science!), but for someone elses credit (Whola Nonsense!).
But, even nonsense can have a value my friend:
1. If I find ET during this week, eberndl gets the glory (+ all the rest of us).
2. eberndl will get a 2500 diploma earlier than if I didn't do this.
3. eberndl will also have my eternal gratitude and a smile round her mouth cause she's done something good(tm). :)

Surely you can see the effect award/credit has on this project? Without it, it would seem we were putting all our efforts into a black hole! Constructed 'value', but then again, isn't all?

*Bill Barto: Advice: Since you seem a bit paranoid, do only install BOINC on computers where you are the _only_ one with access. Your ID can be found in the account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml-file and your life is exposed! You should also start considering encrypting your emails (and maybe even forum-posts?) with at least 256bit encryption.............

Im sorry, but calling anyone that would like to help me stupid?

PS: Learn to quote msg's correctly.
PPS: Now, sit back and smile, like I do.
PPPS: I'm not smiling giving you advice, I'm smiling at the nonsense of life.
PPPPS: If life has something to smile about, is it then nonsense?

There have probably been 1001 requests already,
but I'd also like a gmail address
I couldn't find your e-mail address anywhere, and this board doesn't do PMs
So you could just reply or mail to my hotmail account (same account name as for BOINC)

Thanks

Let me see if I'm following this thread correctly.

Someone wants to do some units for someone else.

To do that, all that is required is their acct info

Can your own, and someone else's be done at the same time? I mean use the alternate account also as a project under BOINC? Divide each up by say 50%?

In light of that, in the same theory, if you have multiple email accounts, could you also run various accounts ( based on how many email accounts you can form new users ) then unify those various accounts into a group for a grand total?

If the question sounds mind boggling, it's just that some people are complaining that there is not enough work for their CPU's to do. But everyone seems to be welcome to try other projects associated with the BOINC project. In light of the above, if you have unlimited email accounts, you could in theory also have unlimited SETI/BOINC accounts on one computer. Only problem would be making sure you didn't go beyond the deadline time.

I'm not going to do this as I already have two machines cranking out units happily, but I'm sure there are some people who might entertain this folly. Would it really work?
