I can not say that I have seen this in these forums but here I go......

Grateful thanks to all the lad's at the "lab" for working extremely hard recently to sort out the problems that the project has suffered of late.

Now would be a good time for the rest of you to click on the "post" button and add your thanks under this post instead of knocking the project of late.
This thread is for thanks only, if you want to "knock" the project then start your own thread.

Kind Regards,
Graeme Murphy.

Well said Graeme. It's not easy to sort through the problems and have everything running 100% at all times. They're doing their best and usually only get criticism so I want to put in my thanks for doing the best they can to sort out the problems.

I think the people involved are doing an incredible job with extremely limited resources. I would love to see the funding come in to get the hardware and/or staff needed to solve the problems "once and for all", rather than having to patch here, then patch there, working extra hours, etc., which I'm sure is much harder on the staff than it is on us out here complaining. I may not agree with every priority they have, and reserve the right to continue to complain about things, but I fully understand the fact that knowing more about it than any of us, they've assigned the priorities as they best see fit. I have noticed that once something becomes "top priority", every one of the "paid" staff and a bunch of the "volunteer" staff step in to get it done, or take some of the "day to day" load off the ones who have to do it. So yes, MANY thanks to Matt, Rom, Paul, JM7, and all the others I'm inevitably leaving out. (I guarantee my computer has more memory than I do...)

Thanks folks your dedicated efforts to get your hands around these issues are definitly noticed. Working hard trying to keep things together with bailing wire, string and chewing gum is never easy. When dealing with thousands of people there are always the naysayers. Perseverance (especially in the face of adversity and boy is there a lot around here) can be quite satisfying especially when it pays off and from the looks of the rate of drop in the wfv queue compared to the last time, it looks like you are heading in the right direction, a much quicker rate of drop. Good luck and keep with it.

Very well said Graeme,

Everyone there at UCB needs a HUGE pat on the back and then some. They do not get enough credit for what they do.

Yes, I know that Rom, Matt, Janus and the others are working very hard on this project! One may even say too hard for their own good! So they have deserved a huge thank you from us!

And yes, I hope we this time can raise money enough for them to solve their hardware problems once and for all, at least for the time being!

Well done, guys! :-)

More than a few folks have worked some fairly long hours -- far beyond the usual 9 to 5. It's appreciated.

I agree with everything that has been said. Trying to keep the system together with the equipment they have is not an easy task. This thread will go a long way in showing our appreciation, however you can make it even better by making a donation. A few dollars here and there can help get the system running even better.

Let's not forget Jeff, Court, and Bob - they don't post to these forums, so they don't get the same accolades as me.

Anyway.. the non-obvious queues haven't fully drained, but I want to get the project up well before I go to bed. It's a rare slow Saturday night for me, so I might as well take advantage of it. The floodgates will open shortly, and there'll be a new tech note, etc. etc.

in the attempt to get this distributive computing science project back on track...some very under-appreciated people have had to do some experimenting of their own...this time they may have found the answers they were looking for...trial and error is a wonderful thing...it can be time consuming...and requires great patience...but the rewards can be fantastic...my sincere appreciation goes out to all who are working to make this project a success...

We've never exactly "forgotten" Jeff, Court or Bob -- as you say they don't have the same visibility. Please pass on our appreciation.

Running a project as large as SETI BOINC and on the cutting edge of what is happening in distributed computing is not easy. Doing it on a shoestring budget is all the more impressive.

Many thanks to all the developers!
