First application now available, for the i686-pc-linux-gnu platform only. We are generating WUs, and of course we are noticing a lot of problems, as expected. Please report any problem, using the forums.

Do you have a link to an information page about the project itself?

This will get you to the message board thread "What is orbit@home?"

There are some more links there that Pasquale has provided. News on the homepage and Technical News will provide you with some more info.

Thanks! It looks like a very useful project.
...But closed for new participants just now:
Sorry, this project has disabled the creation of new accounts. We plan to enable again account creation during the beta testing, probably in November 2005. Thank you for your interest in supporting orbit@home, we hope you will join us then.

They're just starting to test the first application which is for Linux systems with a handful of test WU's. It'll probably be a few months at least before they get the project to the point of having other platform applications available for testing.

I'll be patiently waiting for the Windows application so I can help out with the testing and help get the project into beta and production :)

With SETI down now would've been the perfect time.

Sure would have been. Oh well, there's still Predictor, LHC, Einstein, Sztaki out there to crunch in the mean time

Is there any reason projects like Orbit and Xtreme start out with only Linux? Is it easier to implement than Windows or just the preference of the Project developer?

It's easier to do the Linux than it is Windows for the most part. Windows is a royal pain to write for. I never did it for a living but have written coding in a classroom environment. I had to do both when I was in tech school and could fire out 4 or 5 Unix programs for every Windows program I had to write for class (and usually with far less errors in 4 to 5 Unix program when compared to the mess the Windows program usually was :P)
