September 9, 2005 First application now available, for the i686-pc-linux-gnu platform only. We are generating WUs, and of course we are noticing a lot of problems, as expected. Please report any problem, using the forums. http://orbit.psi.edu |

Do you have a link to an information page about the project itself? |

Do you have a link to an information page about the project itself? This will get you to the message board thread "What is orbit@home?" There are some more links there that Pasquale has provided. News on the homepage and Technical News will provide you with some more info. Orbit@Home Main Page |

Thanks! It looks like a very useful project. They're just starting to test the first application which is for Linux systems with a handful of test WU's. It'll probably be a few months at least before they get the project to the point of having other platform applications available for testing. I'll be patiently waiting for the Windows application so I can help out with the testing and help get the project into beta and production :) To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |

I'll be patiently waiting for the Windows application so I can help out with the testing and help get the project into beta and production :) Sure would have been. Oh well, there's still Predictor, LHC, Einstein, Sztaki out there to crunch in the mean time To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |

I'll be patiently waiting for the Windows application so I can help out with the testing and help get the project into beta and production :) Is there any reason projects like Orbit and Xtreme start out with only Linux? Is it easier to implement than Windows or just the preference of the Project developer? |

Is it easier to implement than Windows or just the preference of the Project developer? It's easier to do the Linux than it is Windows for the most part. Windows is a royal pain to write for. I never did it for a living but have written coding in a classroom environment. I had to do both when I was in tech school and could fire out 4 or 5 Unix programs for every Windows program I had to write for class (and usually with far less errors in 4 to 5 Unix program when compared to the mess the Windows program usually was :P) To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |

I guess now's a good time as any to go find where I put that SuSE box and spare drive. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |
