Hi all.

It would appear that I am unable to post on some of the message boards as I have not crunched enough work units.

I have crunched quite a few Classic work units but haven't done any BOINC work yet.

It would seem fair to allow people who are still doing Classic work to post on all the message boards here.
There are some good people in these message boards who start some interesting threads.
It would be nice to be able to take part in these discussions as I am sure a lot of useful information would be learned to encourage and help those considering moving to BOINC.

As it stands at the moment the current policy makes you feel unwelcome and almost a second class citizen.

My opinions and thoughts are of no interest here unless I immediately start doing BOINC work.

If that is the case perhaps SETI as a whole is not the friendly community of people working towards a common goal that I once thought it was.

I can understand that the policy was put in place to discourage posting by a few mindless pests but discriminating against a large number of local workers is not the way to solve such problems.

Does Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject.

Kind Regards,

Bernard.

It is unfortunate that the policy discriminates against a large number of local workers as you put it, but unfortunatly this is what happens. In a perfect world everyone would be friendly and trustworthy and there would not be a problem, but the world is not an ideal place and measures such as this are necessary.
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

To expand a little on what "The Simonator" said. Awhile back there was a big probelm with people "spaming" the message boards that are now blocked to people who don't have any BOINC credit. It pretty much destroyed the usefullnes of the boards and drove some people away. It is unfortunate but it had to be done.

Hi Bill,

I appreciate your reply and point of view.
However surely it can not be so difficult to have a check that Classick work units are being done as well as BOINC work units.
Do work in either and you are allowed to post messages.
All the information is ther for all active SETI workers whether crunching through BOINC or Classic.

Kind Regards,

Bernard.
