Hi * Started to run BOINC, after 4 years of classic sah. Some of my computers, aren't always connected to the net, that's way in all of them I have some wu's in cache, to keep on crunching. Where can I control under Boinc, this cache number? Best regards, and keep on Nuno (Plan 9 from Outer Space) |

It is not possible at this point in time. Part of the problem with Classic, as the old Seti is called, is that there was no way for Berkeley to track who downloaded a unit and then ensure that they and only they returned it. Apparently cheating was widespread so changes were instituted tracking each download to a specific computer and then unless that computer returns it not accepting it. A cache program has been "in the works" for quite a while but no progress has been reported yet. |

In your account, 'Preferences', select 'View or edit general preferences'. Then go to 'Network usage' and modify the 'Connect to network about every' setting. Increase the setting to a few days and see what happens. |

Alex you are right, I misread the question and responded about computers that do not have net access NOT about computers that have occasional access! Sorry! |

It's really nice ... If I understood well from what I read at Boinc's manuals, the WUs be of different sizes. From the replyes to my question, and since no cache is yet possible, I assume that by increasing the 'Connect to network about every', I'm downloading a bigger pack to crunch. Is this correct? regards |

From the replyes to my question, and since no cache is yet possible, I assume that by increasing the 'Connect to network about every', I'm downloading a bigger pack to crunch. Is this correct? Caching is possible and is done by using the 'Connect to network about every xx days'. Try first by putting this to a value of some 1 or 1.5 days, hit the "Update" button in the Boinc Manager, have a look to the #'s of downloaded WU's in Boinc and afterwards, if still needed, do the operation over again. And, keep in mind the WU's have a deadline of 14 days. Read the News at the homepage Have a look at the Technical News Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki Best greetings, Thierry |
