Hi

I've stated earlier what I find fascinating about the Le Mans race, so I won't repeat myself, but I enjoy this race so much! And it's so different from all other kind of races (Except from the Daytona 24 hour race!)
...and I wholeheartedly agree with you Fuzzy. The Le-Mans 24Hr is real driving. Day/Night, wet/dry, faster and slower cars on the same circuit at the same time. It must be hell on the eye-balls in the rain at night!

The team for whom I was invited to take a test drive was Rob Walker, Stirling Moss was their #1 at that time. I also received a letter of interest from the UDT Laystall team but UDT (United Dominion Trust) went bust a few weeks later in 1962. I didn't like their team colour anyway!
Johnnie Walker

The deciding factor in my decision to give up my pursuit of fame in motor racing was when Stirling Moss piled into St Mary’s bank at Goodwood. As my father said…If it can happen to the best it can happen to the rest!
I had just read his book, I think it was… “Life at the Limit”... in which he wrote about driving at 10 10ths, ie. right on the limit, in which he stated that being on the limit has nothing to do with speed. You can be at 10 10ths at 30 MPH in a Morris Minor with bald tyres on a wet country road!
Yeah, I'm definitely to be found in front of my TV next weekend! And let's hope the weather will be fine in Le Mans. But they call in the cars to the pit to change to rain tyres if it starts to rain! Safety first! But the drivers are used to the conditions and the tyres are safe too, the rain tyres just arn’t as fast, so the speed is slower. But in the end, when they all have the same conditions, a few rounds more or less don't matter!

WOW, you really are famous! I don't know if I dared to take a test drive

Does anyone else mourn the passing of real motor racing?
The days before electronic push-button driver aids and aerodynamic assistance?
The days of big fat tyres, four wheel slides and that unique smell off burnt Castol-R!
I never thought I would see an F1 starting grid without a Lotus or a BRM on it, but I never thought that I would see the Berlin Wall come down in my lifetime either!

Does anyone remember when it was so hot at Monaco that Stirling had the side panels removed from his car because his legs were burning? As he drove in the race you could see his whole lower body and the tubular monocoque of the car?
Anyone remember John Z DeLorian coming into the pits to have holes cut in the roof of his Corvette for the same reason and he had to give up in the end because his feet got burned. Was it Daytona or Sebring?

Motor sport questions for you.

1….In the days before motor sports sponsors logo’s and sponsors colours cars ran in FIA designated International colours.
Britain…BRG…British Racing Green.
Vanwall, Lotus, Conaught, BRM etc were all green with stripes of different colours to differentiate them to the spectators and pit crews. Lotus had a longitudinal yellow stripe, BRM a white nose etc.
France was light blue.
Germany…Mercedes and Porsche were silver.
Italy... … Ferrari and Maseratti….Red of course.

Rob Walker Racing was one of the most successful British teams but their cars were dark blue base colour and a white stripe. WHY???

2…Which F1 team was first to gain FIA permission to abandon its national colour and run a car in full sponsor’s livery, and who were the sponsors???

I'm not a motor sports fan as such, but I do follow F1 - and this season is more exciting than the previous ones. Competition has returned to F1 :) It's just too boring to see the Farrari team win over and over again (and basically I don't like Michael so I don't like the team ;)). Unfortunately my favorite team, Williams/BMW, isn't doing too well this year - so I cheer for my number 2 team, MacLaren - although the Montreal GP wasn't what I'd hoped for

Hi Whiskey,
I am a fan of many types of motor Sports, however my favorite is probably on the bottom of your lit. It would be Nascar. I do enjoy some Cart racing, and some Open wheeled racing..just prefer Nascar. I used to have season Pass, until a few years back, When my health no longer allowed me to travel.
I will say in my younger yeas though...If it had an engine, and tires..i would watch it.

Respectfully,

Rocky

Damn, I forgot all about that. And here in fredericksburg is where they run one of the largest Soap box Derby's, with over 183 participants.as Follows:

Largest derby to run today

Date published: 6/11/2005

The nation's largest Soap Box Derby, The Free Lance-Star Classic, will take over a few blocks of William Street in downtown Fredericksburg all day today.

Opening ceremonies begin this morning about 8 a.m., and the races should start about 8:30.

The race is usually finished by 4 or 5 p.m.

William Street between College and Washington avenues will be blocked off from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., along with intersecting blocks of Sunken Road, Littlepage Street and Kenmore Avenue.

Brompton Street, which will be used to haul the race cars back to the start line, will be open to residents only.

Parking will be available near Maury School, in College Heights and on surrounding side streets. The Free Lance-Star parking lots also will be open to the public for derby parking.

The 186 drivers in this year's race are competing for a spot to run in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships in Akron, Ohio.

Winners from the three divisions--stock, super-stock and masters--will get $1,000 to help cover their expenses for the championships on July 30.

Listen to WWUZ, WFLS and WYSK to see if the Soap Box Derby has been cancelled due to rain. Should that happen, the race will be held tomorrow.

For results of the race, visit Fredericksburg.com.
