http://www.planetary.org/news/2005/pioneer_anomaly1_0510.html Thanks Stephen, that was very interesting reading. Mabe it is some unknown solar system body that's causing the anomaly. Figuring out what's causing this anomaly would be extremly important for planning future deep space missions because of the need for accurate navigation, tragectory plotting, and the possible affects that spacecraft motion may have on these things. Here's a website that you may like reading that also talks about the Planet X theory: Planet X |

Very interesting indeed. Any thoughts? Tony I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up! |

Very interesting indeed. Any thoughts? Maybe it's caused by large asteroidal-like bodies that have eccentric orbits around the outer planets of the solar system, such as Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. |

it is a shame at NASA What do we do next? We need more data. With the spacecraft now silent, we cannot expect future data, so we must look to the past. In fact, there are hundreds of tapes containing data taken before 1987, when the spacecraft were between 10 and 40 AU from the Sun. This data from the time the Pioneers were still in the midst of this planetary realm could be crucial to solving the anomaly. Unfortunately, this data is stored on hundreds of ancient nine-track tapes, now lodged under a staircase at JPL. The tapes can only be read by equally ancient computers, giants compared to modern machines, which are slated for demolition. We must transfer this data to more modern media readable by up-to-date computers, but time is running out. Greetings from Germany NRW Ulli S@h Berkeley's Staff Friends Club m7 © |
