I'm trying to stop downloading WUs for my work location due to new computer useage policies. I thought I had it figured out when I set my preferences for max download speed to 0 and disk space utilization to 0, however, I noticed this morning that I have new WUs downloaded.

Recalling a previous thread on this subject, I upgraded the version of BOINC to 4.25, but unfortunately, there is no option for "no new work" as is indicated on the Boinc Manager page (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/manager.php)

What version of BOINC is needed for this? Or is this option missing because I installed BOINC as a service? HELP!!!

Never mind... I went back to the thread I mentioned previously and noticed I needed the "development" version to get that option. I now have the option to not download any more work units and I've enabled that option. Hopefully it'll work. :-)

Now, unfortunately, I have work units to report, but it appears that I can't disable downloads, but still report work units that are completed. This is NOT acceptable... Can someone please advise how to accomplish my goals of running out my store of WUs and not getting any further work units, but still report these?

Thanks...

For the record, I was running 4.41 because I needed the "no new work" feature. It appears that the problem of not being able to upload was a bug in that version and that 4.42 fixed it. Just in case anyone else is wanting that feature! :-)

Hiya MrMaxx,

If you want an easy solution, but don't want to mess around with Berkeley's developmental versions, download BoincView 1.05 and ditch Boinc Manager altogether. BoincView has a ton of nifty little features that the built-in GUI doesn't, and it's much more configurable. One of these features is to 'disable work requests' which depletes your cache but everything else runs normally (reporting, etc). It's easy to try out, you can run it along side Boinc Manager if you want, and if you don't like it, you just delete it.

The newest boinc I can download is 4.19 (as in boinc_4.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu). How do I stop the download of new wu? Few of my computers will go permanetly down and I want to have a clean stop.

Thank you.

One of the possibilities is to set the "Use no more than" in General preferences to 0.0001GB. This leaves only 100MB for downloading which is too low to get even 1 WU.
Don't forget to do an "Update" after making that change in the Boinc CC.

Read the News at the homepage
Have a look at the Technical News
Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki

Best greetings, Thierry
