Hey Magenta, they are doing the same thing with the railway down the freeway heading south all the way to Mandurah, How's the weather in NZ.

Not a punk person myself. My taste ranges from classical to some types of metal (don't ask me what types as I couldn't tell you the difference). But my alltime fav band is Shriekback.

Wow, what with hills and sea here, I don't see that we could ever change the path of the railway.

The weather's been good today, means the fire doesn't go on until evening. :) Two fine days this weekend, so cold overnight lows (say, 5 degrees Celcius). The cat has been sunbaking outside. :)

How's the weather over where you are?

Yeah, i'm a creature of the night :)
I love the silence and the neighbours and traffic on the streets aren't that noisy in the night. Also i go late (11:00) to work and late (20:00) back home, so i can make the night to day ;)
Yesterday i just got home from a trip through the streets with friends.
Aloha, Uli

I worked nights for about eight years total. Always liked nights the best because I could get the job done without idiotic distractions (need to escort guests, need someone to run down to personnel and take a survey, need to sign out a vehicle and get paint, blah).

One of my most pleasant memories of Japan is coming back from downtown on Saturday nights, putting something light on the stereo, and sitting in my windowsill on the fourth floor of the dormitory I lived in, looking across the flightline, the antenna fields behind, and the city lights beyond that. It was so calm and bluesy.

Best of all, when I was more socially inclined, I always got sleep BEFORE the party.

My removable storm window panel in my bedroom is still spraypainted black to keep light out, and it's sometimes very hard to keep from reverting to mids again.

It's nice to see we both like the night. It looks like some others here like the night as well. It's 1:36 a.m. right now and it rained a lot here a few hours ago. There's a lot of moisture and a nice calm breeze outside right now and it just feels a little eerie.

I like nights like that. Even better for me is when it's foggy outside, and lights are streaming through the tall evergreens we have here. Great nights for a walk.

Eight years! Man that's a long time! Japan uh, that sounds cool. I always wanted to go there as well as some other places. I really admire the way they keep their cultural traditions strong -- so that's where the handle comes from. By the way, I'll try to reveal my handle in source comment at the end of this post if it works.

I'm not sure wich I like best though, working at night, or having the night free. It's good to work at night cuz you got more freedom to do things that you want without distractions and all, but then it would be really nice to have the whole night free to do what you wanted. Hmm, but I think I prefer the latter one. I hope I'll get the freedom to choose between the two. [edit] I guess they don't allow comments here. [/edit]

Another great one from the 80's I thought was the 1986 movie Maximum Overdrive with Emilio Estevez. Yeaa, that was really good. For those that haven't seen it, or if you have and don't remember it that well, it's about this mysterious green cloud that arrives above the Earth from space and causes all kinds of weird stuff to happen to electrical devices on Earth. Somehow this intelligent cloud is able to control every electrical device there is on the planet -- heh, oh boy does it really get ugly.

The story is mostly focused around a small band of people that are trapped at this truck stop gas station and forced to defend themselves against a crazy but very commited fleet of various types of trucks. The people at the stop come to the realization that they have to band together to try to get out of the very serious situation that they're in. The soundtrack throughout the film is by AC/DC, which is another great element.

Then let's not forget Heavy Metal (1981). It was built upon the magazine material as well as previous titles in "adult oriented" animation like Wizards and B.C. Rock (French title: Le Chaînon Manquant) Silly movie overall, but great soundtrack and some great lines in it:

Leader: You will go with him to the queen's castle and steal the Loknar, THEN I will give you the girl.
Den: And if I refuse?
Leader: If you refuse, you die, she dies, everybody dies.
Den (narrator, voice of John Candy): Sounded reasonable to me!

Here in Canada, university terms are Sept - December, Jan - April, and May to August (if you're doing summer school)... 3 and a tiny bit of classes followed by 2-3 weeks of exams. If you're lucky, all your exams are at the beginning so you get an extra week off (which is especially nice before Christmas break) if you're unlucky (like me and everyone else in Sciences) you have exams right to the end...

1 down, 5 to go

Is that Fuzzy?! Hey what do you think of Maximum Overdrive? Sometimes I wish something like what happened in that movie would happen -- cool.

Yes, this is Fuzzy! I'm not familiar with that movie, will have to look it up to see what it's about! So I don't know.

Either it hasn't been on tv or it didn't catch my attention, or even both!

Conan the Barbarian! How I could forget that on among my list of honorable mentions I have no idea. Frankly, among all swords and sorcery movies, this one ranks as my favorite. It had a suitably epic feel to it, great action sequences, a main character that was iconic in his role, good villains that weren't too over-the-top, and (I feel a little guilty about this last point, because this isn't how I usually rate movies) a few really toned, tanned, tough, hot women in furs and leather :) . Added bonus is the soundtrack, which is great listening to psych up to heavy physical activity.

In NZ, we have Mar to Jun then Jul to Nov as semesters, with summer school over Dec through Feb (because we're Southern Hemisphere) :)

Good luck!!! 3 assignments down now, 4 to go plus one ungraded 12 minute presentation.
