if i log out, the wine connection to the X server is KILLED, and the Wine run goes away (dies). Unfortunatly, this logout has to be done as my kids have their Linux logins. Any ideas of work-arounds anyone.

Become root and install the vnc or tightvnc package on your linux box.
Logon as your prefered user and issue the vncserver command.
You may set a password for your vnc session if you like.

If you wish, you can specify the resolution and the color depth like this:
user@myhost:~$ vncserver -geometry 1024x768 -depth 24

You can logoff now, your vnc session keeps running.
From another host, even from a windows box you can now connect to your vnc session using vncviewer.
You will be asked about the vnc server to connect, type in the name of the host (or ip-address) and the screen number like this:
myhost:1

You will be asked for a password, if you decided to use it earlier.
Your vnc session will be connected and you can go on where you left it before.
By default the window manager which is the system's default will be started when you start your vnc session for the first time.

Hope that helps.

Yep - I saw the same as you Steve when trying to run seti under WINE.

I take it your running the new boinc/seti, not the old classic seti?

If so, then presumably you're running the windows version under WINE for extra performance. You don't need to, you'd be better off compiling your own optimized native linux client as it's faster!!
