Personal background
I am a professor developing new methods and materials where chaotic motions are instilled in viscous melts to controllably arrange material components into fine-scale shapes associated with property enhancements or functionality. To relax, I enjoy road cycling.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home with the realization that life on Earth can be improved if we better understand our place in the universe.

I have some concerns that everyone out there may also be listening in lieu of transmitting.

We need to imaginatively ponder alternate communication methods that may be used. Also, can we perhaps detect tell-tale signs in lieu of active signals? What if we begin with the premise that we are being monitored locally and try to detect it? The probability that this premise is correct seems similar to the probability that life will be detected via monitoring radio signals so perhaps actions are also warranted.
