Profile: PerArduaAdAstra

Personal background
Hi I'm Therese from Bristol in the south west of England. I am studying astronomy and planetary science at university part time and I work as a night security guard to support myself. It can get tough somethimes studying and working full time but I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is one reason I chose "Per Ardua ad Astra" for my user name, the other reason being that it was the motto of John Whiteside Parsons, one of the first pioneers of rocket development and a founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a scientist who I very much admire.

Back here in the UK meanwhile it's quite amazing what I get to observe on duty of a night (recently I've enjoyed some particularly lovely views of Saturn) and I am steadily infecting my colleagues with a love of astronomy!

It's a bit of a joke at uni that I myself am an alien but of course I couldn't possibly comment.....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I heard about it on my course and it sounded cool. I like to have it running all night when I'm at work and more often than not I've got uni modules to study too which these days is all space related.

I guess my office could be considered as a little cosmic outpost and since there's always good coffee on the go in there, I think any visiting life forms suffering intergalactic jet lag could do worse than make it their first port of call!

No suggestions at present quite simply because I don't know enough yet but watch this space....
