Personal background
I'm 20, studying chemical enginnering @ Mayaguez. I currently have a 1.4ghz Dell with 512 RAM(and other goodies) running the SETI program 24/7. I'm interested in anything and everything except politics. I'm specially curious about other cultures and environmental issues. I'm a utopic kind of person that doesn't like the current state of the world; too much poverty, hunger, inequality, suffering, etc, etc. Aaaaaand I'm also a mayor Babylon 5 fan.
I don't really have any hobbies except playing games on the computer and reading daily news. The rest of the time I devote to my girlfriend and doing a little studying in between.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely think extraterrestrial life exists out there. It's only a matter of time before we find it but I doubt it will be antime soon (not within the next 100 years). What remains to be seen is if we will encounter intelligent beigns and how close to our home they will be. As for transmitting a beacon out to space for others to find, we have already been doing that for the last 50-60 years in the form of television signals. If others are looking for it they will find us.
I don't really have a specific reason for running the SETI program other than trying to help out in the search. I think that this program is an excellent prototype for other scientific research programs that could be implemented in the future, with people donating their free computer time to help us gain more knowlegde about the universe and our place in it.
