Personal background
I'm in my late twenties (writing this in 10/2001),
live in Berlin, Germay. I work as sysadmin in an
international scientific institute.
I'm an atheist.
I think everything can get explained by science, one day.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my opinion there is extraterrestrial life out there - for
sure. The question is: how far away is it and is it intelligent?
The question of sending a beacon is quiete ambivalent.

On one hand you might say: What, if the creatures
on the other side are not that harmless? In the worst
case be we would behave like a swarm of fish waving
to the sharks and shouting: "Hello here we are! Catch
us - fresh food!" So we should behave passive and just
listen. But:

One the other side: what if every kind in the
universe would behave like that? Nobody would find anybody.
So - there is no free lunch.

I run seti because I think it would be a pity if my
machines idle and idle over night. This way they can
do a useful job and who knows - may be they
help to find evidence of extraterrestrial life...

Also, it is interesting to see how seti benchmarks on
different platforms.
