Profile: Devil's Tool

Personal background
Currently residing Deep in the Heart of Texas, David (now 29) enjoys summer rain, a scented candle, and long walks on the beach. Okay, maybe not. Occupation: I.T. for a major grocery chain. Part-time cynic.

Hot Rods and guitars pretty much round me out.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Well, E.T. was a good movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (what is the first and second kind again?) was a good movie. Does it/they exist? Why not? If us hairless apes evolved (I suppose we evolved, although it doesn't explain the popularity of boy bands) from squirmy little organisms in the ocean, doesn't it stand to reason that somewhere (out there) some other species evolved similarly?
How will we discover it? By total accident. Just like losing your keys and finding them a year and a half later on the top closet shelf (how did they get there?) Actually, I don't believe we'll discover it. They will contact us when they think we've evolved enough (see note about boy bands). Benefits : What happened to the flying cars that we were supposed to have circa year 2000? I've been led to belive that if aliens came in spaceships, they might let us borrow them. Is it hard to drive a UFO? Dangers: They might like boy bands....oops, am I being to hard on the boy bands? Okay, dangers - They might have telepathic powers that control our nation's leaders into doing things they might not do. Okay, not really. I don't think they'll be any more dangerous than ourselves. I hope those extraterrestrials come BEFORE we wipe ourselves off the face of the planet. Sure would be a shame if the only human artifacts they came across were Twinkies and canned Spam.
Transmit a beacon? Hmmm....didn't we try that already? I think I heard the one good thing we sent was "Johnny Be Goode" although translated that might mean, "We want to eat your alien children" Send more music. That's my suggestion. Why not? What could it hurt? I mean, they're probably still picking up transmissions of "Married with Children" so, might as well balance it out.
Why I run Seti@Home.....hmm. Why not? What could it hurt? Besides, who knows, might pick up an alien signal one of these days. (Lance Bass in a Soviet Space Shuttle doesn't count)

Whoops, was I supposed to pick ONE topic?
;-)
