Profile: Navy Corpsman

Personal background
I am age 70, military retired, and live in one of the USA southern states. My hobbies include: science fiction, Egyptology, gardening, computers, reading e-books, photography (retired professional, chatting in both religious and military chat rooms on a major chat platform). I also hold a rather ancient, circa 60s BA in music. In the military I was a Hospital Corpsman (medic) and held the following NEC: 8404 Field Medical Service Technician and 8472 Medical Photographer. I have been active in photography professionally and semi-professionally since about age 15, which comes to about 55 years. I was never involved in any type of conflict (wars) during my 24 years of active service. I served 23 of my 24 years with the USMC, since the Marines do not have their own medics, doctors or dentists.

On 09/12/04 I had a CVA (stroke) which rearranged my life somewhat. Eight years later I am doing very well with my blood pressure under control, have some visual damage, slight vertigo/balance difficulties, walk with a cane. I can, however, walk a 2 mile round trip to the grocery store but it does take some time to do this. In addition I have cataracts, degenerative arthritis and a torn meniscus in my right knee. I no longer drive for obvious reasons.

So as you see I may have lost a battle but I haven't lost the war !!! I'm going to live to fight another day.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Since I like science fiction I enjoy doing SETI in that the hopes the science fiction of today will in the future become science fact!

We were put here on this planet for a reason and I believe that reason is not only to explore our planet but in truth our destiny is the stars.

I have been blessed to see our fledgling steps in this direction from orbiting our "big blue marble" to setting footsteps on the moon and to seeing pictures of our neighbor mars and beyond through many probes and vehicles. I would hope to live to see mankind take his first real steps into our solar system by planting feet on the "red" planet, Mars !
