Personal background
I spent the first eighteen years of my life with my nose in a book. I was a geek, a band nerd, a social outcast. I then proceeded to waste the next five years of my life, alternating between depression and drinking myself back into depression.

Now I'm trying to make something of myself. I'm studying computer graphics and animation at a tiny liberal arts college in the middle of Nowhere, IA. I write[/url], I read, I laugh, I play, I live.

When I was a young lad, I always looked to the stars. I really wanted to be an astronaut, right up until the Challenger explosion shattered my six-year-old dreams. I find that I don't look to the night sky as often enough as I should in my 'older' age. Yet I continue to try to remind myself of the beauty that lies in the heavens beyond. I probably won't ever have a chance to see the great black beyond in my physical body, but I can always hope that there are other forms of life, staring at their night sky, and wondering if there's a kindred spirit amongst the stars in the cold night sky.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've got to do something with my free cpu cycles, so I might as well run SETI. Obviously the chance of discovering 'proof' of intelligent life beyond our own sphere would have far-reaching implications for humanity as a whole, and if I can in some small way help in this task, all the better.

Regarding BOINC and SETI, it would be nice if preferences could be modified through the program interface, as well as on the web. It would make life a lot easier for dialup users.
