Profile: Timothy J. Wenzel

Personal background
I have been in the Navy for 15 years working as a maintenance technician on shore based passive sonar systems. I consider Washington my home state, but have lived here in Virginia for about eight years off and on. I love anything having to do with space including observational and radio astronomy (when I can find the time). I was even going to name my first boy Isaac, but I have two girls instead so that name was out. (My wife hated the idea of naming a boy Guglielmo (Marconi), or Heinrich (Hertz).)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really think the chance of catching a signal this day and age is slim, but we have only just begun to listen. Maybe if we ever develop mainstream gravity wave demodulators, we'll find what we are looking for!

A beacon is a great idea. What could it hurt? Sending Earth's coordinates in a simple mathematical code would do the trick.

I think the grand idea of SETI to finally discover other life is awesome. Even if we can't exchange information, just knowing someone else is out there would change everything.
