I'm CTO in a company working with CGI effects and all aspects of multimedia. Some of our business involves rendering of 3D effects so my thought was: why not contribute some of our spare cpu-cycles when we don't use them ourselves.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home to help out in the search for signs of life in the universe. Statistically the chance of us being alone is very small so I try to do my small part in the hunt for proof.
The SETI project is an excellent way of finding proof of life elsewhere in the universe. SETI@home has also contributed to the IT-business in general with many new ideas and methods (e.g. distributed computing).
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
